Thanks Jeff, for your response.

I am using the rdesktop on Suse 9.3 (prof).
The man page on rdesktop on -r switch only shows
a very brief description.  In fact, it even states
that only a "sound" device is supported?

Anyway, I did try your suggestion.

On the Suse 9.3 machine, I run rdesktop -r
disk:home=3D/home/dir,disk:root=3D/=20

to start up a WindowsXP window.

From there, if I select=20
map network drive, z: \\suse_client\root

I now get no response error.

If I then tried the full IP domain name on the suse client,=20
I get a window prompt for username and password.

But I cannot get the username and password authenticated,
even with the correct combination.

This triggers a question if samba server is needed to be set up
on the rdeskstop suse client.

But in doing so, does that mean I am not using rdesktop disk redirection
capability.

Maybe this theory is wrong.  So what is missing here?

Still puzzled.

The man pages have pretty good documentation on this

from the man page

-r disk:<sharename>=3D<path>,...
Redirects  a  path  to  the  share
\\tsclient\<sharename> on the server (requires Windows
XP or newer). The share name is limited to 8
characters.

this means you can share a disk like so
rdesktop rdp-server -r disk:ROOT=3D/root,HOME=3D/home
this will share the home and root directories with the
remote server.
