As I understand it, you require either (a) a license for the "workstation" version of the "server" product - so if your server is NT4TSE it needs to be an NT4 Workstation license; for Win2k Server, it needs to be a Win2k Pro license; for Windows Server 2003, it will be an XP Pro license. or (b) a "Terminal Services Client Access License" (TSCAL). These cost the same as the "workstation version" in (a) above. The upshot is that you can't get out of paying the money to Microsoft, but if you've already paid for the "workstation" licence, then you don't pay any more. The logic is that your PC is getting an NT/Win2k/WinXP user environment, therefore you need to pay for NTWS/Win2kPro/WinXPPro licence.
