I am running x.org 6.8.1 with compositing enabled. The rdesktop window (for 15 / 16bpp connection to winXP) is always translucent, to the point where it is unreadable.
(other pertinent sw: FC3, gnome 2.8, xcompmgr-1.1.1, metacity 2.8.8 , latest nvidia drivers)

The problem occurs in the rdesktop 1.3.1 rpm from fedora and in the CVS version.

All -a settings I can use (8, 15, 16) are affected. I cannot try with 24 bpp, since it falls back to 16. For 8 bpp, the window contents are opaque, but the titlebar and border are translucent. For 15, 16, the entire window is translucent. When I attempt to use 24bpp, the window title, etc, which seem to be drawn before the remote bpp is known, is translucent.

I am not sure if this is a bug in rdesktop, but it is the only program I have found that has this problem, and I figure that maybe some color map weirdness is occurring.

I have hacked in a solution to make it usable:

diff -r1.181 xwin.c
<               | ((pc.blue >> g_blue_shift_r) << g_blue_shift_l));
>               | ((pc.blue >> g_blue_shift_r) << g_blue_shift_l))
>               | 0xff << 24;

but this only makes the window contents opaque- the rdesktop window title and borders are still translucent. This is not annoying enough for me to want to learn any more about X programming, but if anyone wants to try to fix it and wants me to test or give more info, I'd be happy to.

Also, I would like to have the color depth work at 24 rather than falling back to 16. Is that possible with windows XP pro, and if so, how?

Thanks for writing this incredibly useful program!
