I hope I am submitting this to the correct place. I have a Dell E6500 laptop with an NVIDIA Quadro NVS 160M running Ubuntu 8.10 at a resolution of 1920x1200. The NVIDIA card has a proprietary linux driver (173 or 177). When I use rdesktop to connect to another machine I can log in and see the remote desktop start to draw. About half the icons on the remote desktop are drawn and then the mouse freezes and about 15 secs later the fan speeds up and then the whole machine crashes - dead, no error messages. If I switch to the default ubuntu graphics card driver which runs at 800x600 then rdesktop works. The problem occurs with both versions of the proprietary NVDIA driver (173 and 177). I think rdesktop is a wonderful and essential piece of software.
1. The machine is dual-boot, xp and ubuntu. Remote desktop works under xp without any problems.
2. All other applications work on xp or ubuntu -- the machine is v. stable other than rdesktop.
