No

I used to be able to connect to a Windows server. A couple of months ago it started failing. Now I can only connect about one try out of 30. The message from rdesktop is "ERROR: recv: Connection reset by peer". The server admins refuse to help at all since I am running a non-approved O/S (Linux). System is Ubuntu 8.10 beta, kerrnel 2.6.27-7. rdesktop version 1.6.0.

When I run Sun's VirtualBox from Linux with Windows XP inside that, the Windows remote desktop client connects okay.

tcpdump of the failed Linux connection is attached. tcpdump of the successful Windows connection from within VirtualBox is also attached.

Issue resolved. The Windows Terminal Server gives out a temporary license on first connection that expires after about 9 months. This is stored by rdesktop in ~/.rdesktop/license.<hostname>. Removing this file causes another temporary license to be generated for another 9 months. Microsoft have this workaround for XP clients documented at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/187614
