#282 rdesktop causes kernel panic

Internals (36)
Andrew Yao

Whenever I use rdesktop over a VPN connection, very frequently, after a few minutes or seconds, my entire machine hangs.

The caps lock and the scroll lock LED blinks, and I was told this means Kernel Panic mode.

At this point, my only option is to reboot the machine.

If I don't use rdesktop, only vnc, everything is fine. So I believe it is rdesktop related.

This is quite a serious bug, and I am already on 1.6 version of rdesktop. I am using 2.6.25 Linux Kernel (Gentoo R7).

Is there any logs, steps that I can follow to triage this problem?

I have been using rdesktop for years without problems.
This only started happening recently, after I upgraded my machine to 2.6.25. Gentoo R7.

Are there any linux kernel modules that rdesktop depends on?

I did recompile the kernel and removed a large set of unused modules. Perhaps I removed something that I shouldn't have?
