We are in the process of developing an autopilot for an RC boat that
can follow a certain track from waypoint to waypoint supplied by a
chartplotter or e.g. OZI explorer.

Ships auto pilot normally navigate using the following strings

APB - Autopilot Sentence B
BWR - Bearing and Distance to Waypoint
RMB - Recommended Minimum Navigation Info

These sentences include all
 data (as far is i now know) to do the stuff we need.

Is you auto pilot based on these sentences also or is it using GPS
direct sentences?

We hope that we can use your knowledge and maybe work together on this
if you are interested.

i am not sure whom i may be adressing, but i hope someone will have mercy and help me.
some weeks ago i aquired a chart-system that allows to connect an a.p to the system e.g the rcap through a rs232 to a laptop. after several unsuccessful attempts i finally ended up at this email-address. i think mr pawlowsky was involved in the a/c ap project right from the start when it still related to landbased vehicles. i think the older type of project would be very suitable for use as a ship's autopilot. maybe someone in your group can give me info re. the availability of the cctboard and the pic processor. hoping for a positive answer.

     I am new to this field of UAV. After going  through some documentations available on the internet, I have  some doubts.
 Why do I really require a compass, if I am using 3  gyros for 3 axis of rotations pitch yaw and roll, and 3 accelerometers for x,y,z  directions? 
 What do heading really mean? 
 What will be the output of the  compass?

[rcpilot-site] RCAP help..

Hello ..

I'm in need of some advice on the RCAP and i guess this is the right =
place ?
Am i doing something wrong ..?
I have made a RCAP and connected it to Navman tracker with autopilot.
Switched it on and works as far as soon as i switch the control over to =
autopilot then the servo just sits in the center?
i got the raw NMEA out going into the RS232 ? is this ok or does it need =
to go to RS232 interface of some sort or do i need to invert the signals =
?
??????
Does anybody recommend a GPS what does work on it with the leads? has =
anybody got a complete system working for sale ..?
as long as it can follow a route with a couple of waypoints ??

Do a find in any text editor.. It's there  :-)

1 . I can not find a call to subroutine "GetPos:" in the program listing .

2. Subroutine DoB or DoC line 2 :   Should cs=$8 be there ? cs is not known 
until after return from subroutine DoCS .

3. Subroutine DoB line 8: field=12 (Bearing to destination) . Where is the 
field number 12 obtained from . Is it the position of gpsdata array element 
[12] (GPRMB sentence) ? I find it to be in gpsdata array element [48] .

There is no way really to be able to land properly like this. The drift
in altitude would cause the plane to crash. Also there are many other
manoeuvres needed to land a plane that would need many more input
sensors to be able  evaluate the planes attitude, speed  and so on.

As for the source code. It is the same as the HEX file and I've burned
many PICs with it and the RCAPs worked just fine.
If you describe your problem, perhaps I can help you with what you may
be doing wrong.

As an add-on to  RCAP Gps software I would like to use elevator channel =
(Vertical positioning) to land a  model airplane  on a runway .Would =
someone be kind enough to share a simple picbasic (or anything else ) =
software routine  on the above or an algorithm to lead  me in the right =
direction please .
Incidentally , RCAP Gps software I had downloaded seems to have some =
flaws or missing parts to it .Does anybody have an RCAP  source code =
that produces the same hex file supplied with the zipped RCAP source  =

I am doing a research project on "Fun and Software Development" in which I kindly invite you to participate.
You will find the online survey under http://fasd.ethz.ch/qsf/. The questionnaire consists of 53 questions and you will need about 15 minutes to complete it.

With the FASD project (Fun and Software Development) we want to define the motivational significance of fun when software developers decide to engage in Open Source projects. What is special about our research project is that a similar survey is planned with software developers in commercial firms. This procedure allows the immediate comparison between the involved individuals and the conditions of production of these two development models. Thus we hope to obtain substantial new insights to the phenomenon of Open Source Development.
