Jake, Did you modify increment 2 class diagram to make the increment 4 class diagram ? because, I was working on increment 4 class diagram, ie., integrating whatever you sent me with increment2 . As a reminder, Thanksgiving and the day after (Thursday and Friday, November 23-24) will be 100% holidays from this project. Do not work on it at all. I want everyone to have a break so we can feel rested for the final stress of completing the project. As always, we will have a meeting Thusday night after class. Please move as quickly as possible from the classroom to the Sun lab. Please plan on not going home or anything in between class and the meeting. Please plan on working with your subgroup after the meeting until at least 10:00 P.M. I will be meeting with group I to work on increment 3 tomorrow night in the Sun lab (xterminals) from 9:00 P.M. to 12:00 A.M. I will be making myself available more often to meet with the two subgroups until the project is finished, but I want to point out that I believe more work could be done with less meetings. What I mean is, when a subgroup has something to produce, they spend several days of email planning meetings and then the deadline slips. By all means, plan your meetings, but 1) look into calling people instead of emailing them since email has about a 24 hour turnaround time, and 2) do more work on your own and email it to your subgroup. There's no reason the whole group, or even part of the group, has to meet to work. Whoever has time first, just start working, and email your progress to everyone else. Whoever has time next can pick up the baton and keep running. We cannot afford to keep waiting until the last minute for each of these deadlines; a deadline is not an indicator of when to start working but a point in time when previously continuous work must be brought to an end. I am available to work in the following time slots. Group I has one time planned to meet with me. Please plan another immediately; only two of you need be present (pick the first timeslot when any two of you are available at the same time I am). Group II, please plan two times to meet with me. Again, only two of you need be present, so pick the first timeslots when any two of you (not necessarily the same two for both meetings) are available at the same time I am). Times I am available: Wednesday, 4:30 - 6:30 Thursday, 4:30 - class (we will all meet after class; I am available until midnight) Friday, 4:30 - 12:00 Saturday, 7:00 A.M. - 10:00 P.M. Sunday, 1:30 - 5:30, 8:00 P.M. - 12:00 midnight Monday, 4:30 - 12:00 Tuesday, 4:30 - class Wednesday, 7:00 A.M. - 12:00 midnight Please make this decision within the next working day. Thanks for everything; see you Thursday (or some of you, Wednesday). jdb |

The schedule has been updated. It is at http://rcml.sourceforge.net/sched.html . Please look over it to make sure that we have the same understandings about what will be included in each increment. Right now, this schedule page is probably the most important web page for our project. jdb |

This is a summary of how to use CVS to access our code. When you get into modifying the code, you must use CVS from now on to keep us from getting confused with multiple versions lying around. Generally speaking, you should not be modifying any code (anything in the src/ subdirectory) unless you are in the coding part of an increment. Modifying other files, such as the design and analysis documents, is all right at any time. Please keep the README file up to date, describing the actual status of the project and anything left to do for your increment. The sequence of steps to use CVS is as follows: cvs checkout rcml V (edit files as appropriate) <-+-- V | | cvs update -------------------| | # do this often V | cvs commit ---------------------| # asks for a log message At any time, you can torch the whole rcml directory you created (by deleting it or otherwise getting rid of it, that is) and start over. If you need to add a new file, create an initial version of it (not necessarily complete), then do the following: cvs add filename cvs commit If you need to delete a file, first remove the file from the directory with the rm command, and then: cvs remove filename cvs commit At the moment, you must be logged into rcml.sourceforge.net for any of this to work. You must also execute the following command each time you log in, or add it to the file ".profile" in your home directory: export CVSROOT=username@cvs1:/cvsroot/rcml (where username is your sourceforge username) jdb |

It appears that the problems Kalyani and I were having logging into rcml.sourceforge.net have gone away. I haven't received any official word as to what the problem might have been, although there seem to be several open support requests on the same subject. You can track the support request I submitted at https://sourceforge.net/support/?func=detailsupport&support_id=107949&group_id=1 jdb |

Dr. Levine, Increment 2 for our project is finally available on our group webpage at http://sourceforge.net/projects/rcml . We have been delayed while we changed our minds about what each increment should do. Increment 3 has completed analysis. Design will be done by November 15 and coding by November 19th. Increment 3 is the basic checkin and checkout commands for a simplified archive that only has a linear sequence of revisions (that is, only a trunk; no branching, like full-fledged RCS). Increment 4 will add in the ability to have multiple branches. The analysis phase is occurring right now and will conclude by November 15. Design will be done by November 20, and implementation by November 22. We have been constantly moving our class diagram from one document to another, representing it variously at times as a Microsoft Word document, plain text, paper, and a powerpoint document. We have finally entered the diagram into Rational Rose, so hopefully things will look a lot better, now. Please check out our increment 2 work. Thank you. J. David Blackstone |

Been running around all day without enough sleep; I won't be there tonight. Too much trouble getting in from Waco in the middle of the night and looking for a voter registration card today and other assorted messes. Whoops -- group I doesn't have group II's design. There is a file of pseudocode for it at gamma2:/home/jxb9451/rcml/xml_inter.txt . The class diagram hasn't changed fundamentally, and I believe Pramada has entered it into Rational Rose and sent it to the list (good job, Pramada!). It takes a while for large files to go through; it should be there tonight. Group II's coding is all but finished with a couple of tiny things (outputs to screen instead of file). I'll try to figure out what the problem is later this evening. Meanwhile, group II, please start looking into the issues involved for branching. You'll need to make changes especially to the RevisionNumber class, the DTD, the getRevision method of the RevisionTree class, and a few other things. Remember, a branch is an odd number of numbers separated by dots (as in branch 1.5.6, or branch 2), and there are multiple versions on each branch, each designated by a version number. Alltogether, the branch number and the version number are the revision number. Group I, if you can't get the design finished before tonight, that'll be okay. We'll readjust deadlines if necessary in the Thursday meeting. Try to get as many issues as possible worked out, though. Do not, under any circumstances, start coding before the design is completed. See you all Thursday. jdb |

Hi J. David I have problem to make operator to overload the ofstream. Every time i use it it will only print on the screen not to the file. could you look into the << overload function in Utility class. and by the way, the entire increment 2 has finished except the output to the file is the problem. you can check out all of the classes from my directory.
