Well, I cannot find the problem now and don't have enough time to dig 
further into the issue. Since there's IMO nothing wrong with the C++ code, 
there is little we can do anyways. 

So, in the end, the same code will calculate ridiculous timings on P4 
while reporting fairly quick timings on Athlons. Either it's the program 
having difficulty measuring the timings or the Intel chips just loose badly 
on these constructs -- or something else I did not think about.
