Thank you for the link. I got it to work. However, when I perform the updates (raspbx-upgrade and GUI modules) the system stops working. Are there other files that reqire modification to ensure the updates are applied to the correct drive(s)? Again - thank you.

I just tested Running Raspbian from USB Devices : Made Easy (usb-boot) again and there's no problems running RasPBX from a USB device, including after updates (raspbx-upgrade and GUI modules).
NOTE: If running FreePBX 15, you MUST install php7.0-intl or framework v15.0.16.20 (or higher) will crash (SD card or USB):
