Hi RAMADDA users, I haven't used this sourceforge mailing list in quite a long time and am not sure who might be on the list. I've created a new mailing list at https://groups.google.com/g/ramadda ra...@go... If you haven't received a notice of being added to the new list please add yourself. Thanks Jeff |

Hi Hoda, You shouldn't have to install anything. RAMADDA can read netcdf files using its own Java library. Can you send me a link to the offending file? Hi all, I'm pleased to announce the release of RAMADDA version 2.2 - https://geodesystems.com/repository/alias/release/ It has been quite a while since the last release and there are way too many new features and fixes to list here. The big changes include being able to search and display data from over 150 external repositories, interactive visualization, publication of rich web pages and lots of improvements to the user interface. There are lots of examples of what you can do with RAMADDA at - https://geodesystems.com/ http://10000cities.org/ http://transit.10000cities.org/ RAMADDA is still released as shareware & payware. Please consider supporting its development by registering and purchasing a license at - https://geodesystems.com/repository/alias/ramadda_registration Thanks Jeff McWhirter President, Geode Systems |

My ipynb file doesn’t render. Do I have to switch something on behind the scenes? http://weather.rsmas.miami.edu/repository/entry/show?entryid=0dd89e22-0907-4727-b4be-d14b9d5b84d8 It has a Nb icon so the format is recognized it seems, but that doesn’t make the services happen. I find myself in the situation of having forgotten my own password and the "admin" password I had set up on our RAMADDA server (long ago). This is a Centos linux system. How do I go about setting up new passwords? Thanks, Donna earthdata.tamu.edu/repository The Academy at Texas A&M University |

Hi all, I hope all is well for folks in the new year. I plan on getting a new release out in mid February. Lots of changes happening on the Geode Systems front - http://geodesystems.com With the new year I am focusing my efforts on building out my company and RAMADDA as a product. Science informatics is an important piece of this effort but I am expanding my focus to wider areas. I believe the University and research community will benefit from the evolution of the product. I am settling in on a new license for RAMADDA and I wanted to get feedback from the community. I am staying with current shareware/payware model. I've changed the shareware banner to be both useful for Geode Systems and not obnoxious for site use. e.g. - http://boulderdata.org/ On the payware side I will still stick with the $/user license but for universities and non-profits I will offer a site license at some fixed cost so for now something on the order of 600 USD. I do recognize that in some case (e.g. .gov sites) for some reasons (stupid .gov rules) the above can't work. In that case I would grant free site licenses. I'd appreciate any comments about this. The switch over will happen in the upcoming release. Thanks Jeff |

Hi all, I hope everybody is doing well as we slide into Winter in the northern hemisphere. I've been working on a Boulder Data Hub in RAMADDA - tons of data about Boulder CO and lots of cool visualizations - http://geodesystems.com/repository/alias/boulderdata Also - going forward into 2016 I've been thinking about changing the RAMADDA license to just a payware/shareware license and do away with the free for non-profits license. My continued lack of funding prompts me to go down this path. If this causes any existing users problems don't worry, I'll be cool about grandfathering in folks. Stay tuned. -Jeff |

Hi, The link below takes me to the GFS forecast from 12-19 December 2015. I have a few questions on this; 1) How to get the latest forecast cast - from 17-22 December 2015? 2) If I click the legend below (like absolute vorticity, GEFS rain etc) same image is getting displayed. Does it mean that two parameters, say wind speed and precipitation cannot over lap? 3) Is it possible to get the digital data of these forecast fields? Thanks and regards Ali The link: http://weather.rsmas.miami.edu/repository/entry/show?entryid=synth%3A1142722f-a386-4c17-a4f6-0f685cd19ae3%3AL2N1cnJlbnRtb25zb29ubG9vcC5naWY%3D -- Dr. MM Ali Courtesy Senior Scientist COAPS, Florida State University, USA Formerly: Scientist G & Group Director NRSC/ISRO |

Hi Rob, Yes, there was a way to authenticate via API but it was implemented poorly. I've fixed things and updated the docs - http://geodesystems.com/repository/userguide/developer/api.html#auth Try the new authentication mechanisms out. Any comments or feedback would be welcome. This update is in the SVN tree. I will be making a new 2.1B release this week. -Jeff On Wed, Nov 25, 2015 at 6:52 AM, Aiken, Rob <ro...@ba...> wrote: > Hi Jeff, > > > I need to be able to access folders with restricted access. The only API documentation I have found is located here: https://verif.rap.ucar.edu/repository/userguide/developer/index.html Is there a more in-depth API developer guide? Hi all, I hope everybody had a pleasant Fall. Here in Boulder we had tomatoes growing until the end of October. Anyways, beyond gardening I have some news to share with you all. I had been planning on being involved with the NSF funded Big Weather Web project but my involvement recently fell through. This leaves me in a bind as I haven't had any funding or income of any sort this year. I don't know my next steps but its time to leave the NSF world behind. I will be focusing my efforts in other areas. The RAMADDA licensing will most likely be changing but to what is to be determined. Existing registered users will be grandfathered in under the current non-profit license. That said, I have been building out some very cool data access capabilities. There are a number of posts on the blog pointing to the new data - http://geodesystems.com/repository/entry/show?entryid=4a8e20a8-8bd7-4748-992f-e6ff1ad23ec3 You can also see the full list of providers at - http://geodesystems.com/repository/search/textform?show_providers=true Cheers -Jeff |

Hi all, I thought folks might be interested in some of the work I've been doing this Fall. I've been submitting some RAMADDA work to various code challenges and CFPs. Here is a submission to the Knight News Challenge - https://www.newschallenge.org/challenge/data/entries/ramadda-data-explorer This talks about the Data Explorer capabilities in RAMADDA - http://dataexplorer.net NIST had a challenge to provide App access to their reference data. I wrangled 4 of their data sets into RAMADDA and provide text message access. Search for Avogadro's number via SMS - http://devpost.com/software/ramadda-nist-reference-data And today I just submitted a project to the Atlassian Codegeist challenge - http://devpost.com/software/ramadda-codegeist You can search JIRA and Confluence sites through RAMADDA, post updates to HipChat, import HipChat rooms and messages as RAMADDA content and search and visualize data from inside HipChat. USDA data next - http://usdaapps.devpost.com/details/resources -Jeff |

Hi Julien, The IDV plugin is built and released in the geoplugins. However, the Grid displays output has been disabled after some cleanup that I did some months back. Below is some more info if you want to try to get this working. -Jeff The code is in src/org/ramadda/geodata/idv/IdvOutputHandler.java public void checkIdv() { //For now just don't try the IDV as the IDV init code bombs out because of the missing jythonlib.jar if (true) { return; } This will need undoing and the plugin rebuilt In that same dir is an oldlib dir that holds the 2 jars that got removed from the main release. These need to get included in the Java runtime On Wed, Oct 14, 2015 at 10:52 AM, Julien Chastang <cha...@uc...> wrote: > Hi, > > Where do we grab the IDV Grid Displays plugin? > > Many Thanks. > > On Tue, Jun 9, 2015 at 9:31 AM, Tyle, Kevin R <kt...@al...> wrote: > > Hi Don, > > > > > > > > I’ve used it very occasionally in the past, but I would be fine with > having > > this be a separate, optional plugin. > > > > > > > > --Kevin > > > > > > > > _____________________________________________ > > Kevin Tyle, Systems Administrator > > Dept. of Atmospheric & Environmental Sciences > > University at Albany > > Earth Science 235, 1400 Washington Avenue > > Albany, NY 12222 > > Email: kt...@al... > > Phone: 518-442-4578 > > _____________________________________________ > > > > > > > > From: Don Murray [mailto:don...@gm...] > > Sent: Tuesday, June 09, 2015 11:15 AM > > To: ram...@li... > > Subject: [Ramadda-users] Who's using the IDV Grid Displays feature > > > > > > > > Hi- > > > > We are thinking of removing the IDV Grid Displays plugin from the > > geoplugins, and making it available as a separate plugin that can be > > installed if someone wants to use it. > > > > Is anyone using the Grid Displays option for gridded datasets and if so, > > what impact would this have on you? > > > > Thanks. > > > > Don Murray > > > > buddhaandthebees.net > > > > > > > ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ > > > > _______________________________________________ > > Ramadda-users mailing list > > Ram...@li... > > https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/ramadda-users > > > > > > -- > Julien Chastang > Scientific Software Developer > Unidata-UCAR > > > ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ > _______________________________________________ > Ramadda-users mailing list > Ram...@li... > https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/ramadda-users > |

Hi all, I thought I'd share some new work in RAMADDA that supports interactive search, visualization and now publishing. Here is an example page that searches for emissions data from the Energy Information Agency (EIA) - http://geodesystems.com/repository/alias/search_and_explore?provider=eia&text=emissions Users can create tables and charts, search other sites, change the layout, etc. If the user is logged in they can publish what they just created as a wiki page or a blog post. This is pretty new stuff and has a long way to go but I think its pretty useful already. It is fun exploring all of this data. Some next steps will be to more cleanly integrate maps and grid displays. If anyone has ideas on where to take this please share them -Jeff |

Hi all, It looks like SourceForge is back up. I have made a new 2.1b release - http://geodesystems.com/repository/userguide/releasenotes.html This has lots of bug fixes and some new features. Please give it a try. We are going to look at moving RAMADDA to Github. This last two week outage was a bit much. There is some very cool new data integration capabilities in RAMADDA. You can search in lots of places - Google, Youtube, Flickr, .lots of gov data sites, etc, and create charts and displays all in one place. I'm just working on the round-trip now - the user can publish back to RAMADDA as wiki pages, blog posts, bibliography listings, etc. Kind of like Pinterest for data. Interactive example - http://geodesystems.com/repository/alias/searchanywhere Listing of all search providers - http://geodesystems.com/repository/search/textform Most of the search providers require an API key. Docs here - http://geodesystems.com/repository/search/index.html If you use or provide a data access API and would like to see it plugged into RAMADDA send me a note. Thanks, -Jeff |

Hi Scott, I've made the fix and seems to work in my test environment. SourceForge file upload is down right now but if you SVN the latest and build from source you should be OK A caveat - the database integration is pretty new and somewhat buggy and/or limited functionality. I'd like to build out this facility so if you find it useful and have ideas for new functionality please share -Jeff -Jeff On Tue, Jul 28, 2015 at 1:22 AM, Scott Wales <sco...@un...> wrote: > Hi Ramadda users, > > We've been running into some trouble trying to create links to a MySQL > database using the 'Database Table' type. Hi Ramadda users, We've been running into some trouble trying to create links to a MySQL database using the 'Database Table' type. From what I can tell Ramadda will only set up the JDBC driver when connecting to its main database, not for external tables. Since our Ramadda DB is using Postgres, only the Postgres driver is loaded and we get an error when setting up the Database Table: java.sql.SQLException: No suitable driver found for jdbc:mysql://xx.xx.xx.xx/table The patch below changes the DB manager to load the driver both for the main database and external connections. Initial testing shows that this works, however I'm not familiar enough with server-side Java to know if loading the driver for every external connection would have a performance impact. Is there a better way to handle connecting to multiple database types? Cheers, Scott -- Index: src/org/ramadda/repository/database/DatabaseManager.java =================================================================== --- src/org/ramadda/repository/database/DatabaseManager.java (revision 5793) +++ src/org/ramadda/repository/database/DatabaseManager.java (working copy) @@ -362,7 +362,22 @@ "Could not determine database type:" + jdbc); } + /** + * Load the JDBC driver for `dbType` + */ + private void loadDriver(String dbType) { + String propertyName = PROP_DB_DRIVER.replace("${db}", dbType); + String className = (String) getRepository().getProperty(propertyName); + try { + Class.forName(className); + } + catch (ClassNotFoundException e) { + System.err.println("Could not find JDBC driver for "+dbType); + } + } + + /** * _more_ * @@ -378,14 +393,8 @@ String userName, String password) throws Exception { String dbType = getDbType(connectionUrl); - String driverClassPropertyName = PROP_DB_DRIVER.replace("${db}", - dbType); - // System.err.println("JDBC Property:" + driverClassPropertyName); - String driverClassName = - (String) getRepository().getProperty(driverClassPropertyName); + loadDriver(dbType); - Misc.findClass(driverClassName); - BasicDataSource ds = new BasicDataSource(); @@ -404,7 +413,6 @@ // System.err.println("DatabaseManager.makeDataSource: url=" + connectionUrl); // System.err.println("JDBC driver class:" + driverClassName + " db type:" + dbType); - ds.setDriverClassName(driverClassName); ds.setUsername(userName); ds.setPassword(password); ds.setUrl(connectionURL); @@ -437,6 +445,10 @@ public Connection getExternalConnection(String prefix) throws Exception { String connectionURL = getRepository().getProperty(prefix + ".url", (String) null); + + String dbType = getDbType(connectionURL); + loadDriver(dbType); + String user = getRepository().getProperty(prefix + ".user", (String) null); String password = getRepository().getProperty(prefix + ".password", -- Scott Wales, Computational Modelling Systems ARC Centre of Excellence For Climate Systems Science School of Earth Sciences, The University of Melbourne, Australia 3010 sco...@un... / P +61 3 8344 6907 / M 0450 012 907 |
