Patrick,
Depending on your budget, you may want to consider using a third party image host service like Akamai
http://www.akamai.com/
or a caching service like NetScaler
http://www.netscaler.com/solutions/app_webbased.cfm

Would you be willing to share some of your performance metrics from your site and how you have your server(s) set up? I'm not asking for anything that would compromise your network security, just a basic outline of the types of servers you're using (processors, RAM etc.), do you cluster, are you running separate SQL servers from your web servers, that kind of thing. Also, your ISP that you use could be a bottleneck depending on what kind of connectivity they have to the Backbone.
I think many in the community would be interested in seeing how Rainbow performs in a high traffic environment.

Subject: [Rainbowportal-devel] Inproving Image Load times performance.

Hi guys,

I am being confronted with this problem. Our portal
http://www.navylifepnw.com/ is quite rich in images, and dynamic content. We
are having problems with the images not loading as quick as we would like.

We had to remove a couple flash animations because of this, but we are still
having issues. I lookded at the IIS 6.0 compresing capabilities and ISS
Caching. I know some software products what will help with both the caching
and metatags

I wanted to know what is your experience on this area and if you have any
suggestions

thanks,

Patrick Butler Monterde
