Something I proposed to add some time ago: All messages of the activities of the last active player at the time of save get automatically copied to the system's clipboard. This should allow to past them into another application easily. Could anyone test this with on another system than Linux? I hope that it also works with those configuration that caused troubles at copying from the report window. I have added some hint text to the save game dialog to make users aware of that fact. A pop-up after the save, seemed a little intrusive. Stefan |

David sells a 10% share of ATN to Pool for $65. ATN price goes from $65(C2) to $60(C3). L&N lays tile #7 at hex B5/S L&N earns $60 L&N pays out full dividend of $60 Chris receives $6 for 1 10% shares Phil receives $6 for 1 10% shares Si receives $36 for 6 10% shares David receives $12 for 2 10% shares L&N price goes from $80(E1) to $90(F1). ATN (Chris) operates. ^Works on windows^ This is an excellent feature, I think this is one of those things that will need to be stated in the release notes just so that people are aware. I agree a popup on save would get really annoying really quickly but the text in the save dialogue header isn't that obvious, people will rarely look up there as a matter of course I feel, I think just spreading the information around at release time will be sufficient I posted the above into a GMail window in Chrome. I don't know if this fixes the Firefox bug or not (I don't have FF installed) so it would be good if someone can double check that Phil On 28 October 2010 22:09, Stefan Frey <ste...@we...> wrote: > Something I proposed to add some time ago: > > All messages of the activities of the last active player at the time of save > get automatically copied to the system's clipboard. > This should allow to past them into another application easily. > > Could anyone test this with on another system than Linux? > I hope that it also works with those configuration that caused troubles at > copying from the report window. > > I have added some hint text to the save game dialog to make users aware of > that fact. Phil: I agree that the current info text will most likely be ignored. Possible solutions: * Maybe it could be configured that it pops up once and then the user could check the option "do not show this message again". However this has to be stored in the configuration file and there is no requirement for one yet. In that case selecting the option would require the storage of a configuration file. * It could be shown in the comment part of the message pane. But it is only shown during the OR. See next mail on adding this to the status window. * The release note only help for current players, future players will not be covered. A wiki/faq page on pbem configuration would be great. This idea scares me. Many people do multiple things with their PC during a game. The clipboard should only ever be changed by explicit command of the user. I suggest instead adding a "Copy" capability (menu selection or button) to the log window, preferably along with the ability to select part of the content for copying by clicking-and-dragging. |

I concur with John. Please don't do anything to my clipboard without asking. -- Chris Please consider the environment before printing this e-mail. Given Chris and Johns concerns maybe this should be a configuration option, that way it defaults to off (so people aren't unduly annoyed by it) but those who are happy to have it enabled can do so I'll work on a configuration wiki page to try and make some of this stuff clearer Phil On 31 Oct 2010, at 05:49, Chris Shaffer <chr...@gm...> wrote: > I concur with John. I agree that this option should not scare anyone (I never had this intention): I had put down this as a todo after the discussion of the copy&paste problems of the game report window with the pbem playing participants of the list. It seemed that the automation part was highly requested. I suggest that there should be an option "copyLastPlayerActionsToClipboard" with the three possibilities: ASK, NEVER, ALWAYS with ASK as default. So after game save a pop-up would ask if last player actions should be copied to the clipboard. Players could then either turn it off or enable it in the configuration. This also solves the problem that this feature gets lost for new players. In the medium run if we define standard profiles for pbem/ftf the defaults could be set accordingly. I like the automation option and will use it, but can see many situations (especially people playing at work) where it could be tragic. The proposed configuration option sounds like a perfect solution to me. -- Chris Please consider the environment before printing this e-mail.
