Hi, a little bug in Rails 20. RC1. The Pru was started in the Operating round. 4 Minors (M3, M5, BB and HB) were not exchanged. At the End of the operating Round all owning Players are asked, to exchange or not. Rails starts with the actual President. see attached Picture. (ie. Sven) The Rules states, it begins with the starting Player. (Klaus-Jürgen) The attached save-Files is at the moment before the Exchange. greetings Volker -- Volker Schnell email: vol...@ar... homepage: home.arcor.de\volker_schnell |

Thanks, okay that helps. It does not appear on reload, but only in a play-through sequence. Should be easy to find, hopefully easy to fix as well. ;-) On 10/12/2015 06:02 PM, Martin Brumm wrote: > Am 12.10.2015 um 16:59 schrieb Stefan Frey: >> Martin: >> thanks for the provide file. Martin: thanks for the provide file. However it works correctly on my computer. What is the branch/release you were testing on? Mine were rails_2_maintenance and RC1. If you did the same (and you get the same result loading the file on your computer now), it is a undo/redo bug and we have to check if the UI gets updated correctly if the player order changes by undo/redo. Every time I see a table, I like to be able to click the column headers to sort. Sometimes, it's useful to sort companies by treasury (to see who is able to buy trains), sometimes alphabetically (if there are a lot of companies), sometimes floated vs. unfloated, sometimes number of shares in particular locations (e.g. sort by number of shares in the pool in 1844 or 1817). In 1880, you want to sort by par value (which is also operating order, but could show you which par values are still available). Some of the columns may not matter, but if the UI is changed to allow sorting by column headers, why not enable all of them? In regard to what information should be available, the answer is of course "all." However, it would be nice to have a single place to go look at all the company information. If I'm on a small screen, I can toggle between viewing the map and viewing the table of companies. If I'm on a large screen, I can display those windows side by side. Right now, we get some of the information in a table attached to the map, and some information in another table in the game status window - and some of it is duplicated in both places. I'd like to have it all in one place that's easy to access. Chris and John: Thanks for your proposals. Some general comments first: * Greater improvements to the UI require substantial code-changes and will only happen over longer time frames. So there is enough time to discuss those. Current changes are small hacks in the current code, so some things are easy to introduce, others are close to impossible. * There is a docking framework that Frederick Weld implemented for the operating round. This allows to separate the Map from the OR Panel. You can activate it in the configuration window or by simply choosing the "ORDocking" configuration profile. * It seems that there is consensus that most information on companies should be moved to the Game Status window. However is there information that is can be removed? * What is the remaining information that should be visible during the Operating Round? > John David Galt: > > If I had my way, companies would be displayed in only one place -- the > Game Status window -- and it would have columns added to be able to show > tile and token lays. The map window should contain only the map and the > operating-round controls. > > If the devs aren't willing to change that, second best would be to make > the dividing bar between the map section and the company section of the > map window moveable by dragging it with the mouse, the way you can do it > in Windows' File Explorer and in Mozilla Thunderbird's main display. > This would be especially helpful when trying to play a game with lots of > companies (like 18EU or 1837) on a small screen. Or another separate table, however not linked to the map. Again this is possible using the Docking configuration. - What other metric would you like to sort on? |

If I had my way, companies would be displayed in only one place -- the Game Status window -- and it would have columns added to be able to show tile and token lays. The map window should contain only the map and the operating-round controls. If the devs aren't willing to change that, second best would be to make the dividing bar between the map section and the company section of the map window moveable by dragging it with the mouse, the way you can do it in Windows' File Explorer and in Mozilla Thunderbird's main display. This would be especially helpful when trying to play a game with lots of companies (like 18EU or 1837) on a small screen. As it is now, if playing on a computer with a 1024x768 monitor, you can wind up having to go most of the way through 18EU (all the way up to the minor company merger round) before you're allowed to see more than a tiny "letterbox" slice of the map. I'm sure it's even worse on mobile devices. |

Luiz: first thanks for the save files. The bug you reported is actually intended as a feature... ;-) During Tile and Token Lays and Revenue Calculation only the current operating company is shown to maximize the area to display the map. Only during Train Buying all companies are shown. To All: What do you think? There has to be a solution for those games that feature too many companies. One idea is to allow the user change the mode (single versus all) by double-clicking on the company panel? On 10/04/2015 02:52 PM, Luiz Cláudio S. Martin: you added a fix for the stockmarket. Have you looked into the other issue as well? Otherwise I will check that: The rocket should be usable before the revenue calculation step, that is one of the neat tricks. Is the Rocket not shown as an option in the special menu? The call for save files for 18EU allowed to fix several specific bugs for that game in 2.0. As the coverage of 1856 is pretty sparse and it deviates substantially from 1830 can I ask all of you for 1856 save files in a similar fashion as before? I expect a Release Candidate 2 ready for this weekend. Hi, I've just tested the current build, and I'm pleased to say that it does work already. However, I would certainly call this experimental yet. First, a practical question: could you publish the checksums (md5 or sha) of the downloads? Some people, including me, are a bit cautious of SourceForge after their Faux Pas with GIMP. - Downloads and unpacks succesfully - Program has no icon - Does not run with default security settings ("Rails can't be opened because it is from an unidentified developer"), as expected, since this is an unsigned build. - Take a relative long time (30-60 seconds) to start without progress indication. - Menus are at the top, once the Game Status or Map window is active. (not yet when the New Game dialog is shown). I was very happy with that - Menu structure is distinctly non-mac like (no File menu has unfamiliar items, Edit menu is missing; menus change). - Windows and text are coarse, there is no support for a retina display (except for the menu's, which are hair-sharp) - info sub-sub-menus contain "<html>" and "<br>" in tekst All in all, this is definately a great step forward, and I would certainly use this over the jar file. However, it by far no a polished Mac app. Regards, Freek (long-time list-lurker) |

As long as it is clear that there is a default and it's easy to switch to the other versions/options, it doesn't much matter. Creating a game takes what, about 2 minutes? When you consider the entire investment of playing the game, that isn't a lot. Forcing people to change a game setup option because the default isn't the version they want to play is not a big deal. John David Galt asked to change it to the published auction variant. I will stick to that change as I agree with John that in general the rules as published should be the default. A related question is how to handle rule changes from new releases: For example the up-coming 1844/1854 will deviate from the previous versions. Rails should support the old and the new release. However what should be the default? To all Rails 18EU players: I am currently looking for 18EU save files for Rails. Best are End-of-Game files, however intermediate files work too, any Rails version works fine. Rails allows automated testing with existing game files to ensure that new features do not break existing games. However for 18EU there is no full game file and 18EU deviates substantially from 1830. Please send 18EU files directly to my mail address and I will add them to the Rails repository for future testing. Thanks for your help. Stefan |

All: as there is no feedback (at all) to the RC 1, my intention is to release 2.0 next weekend. There are two possibilities, either no one has tested it or there were no (serious) bugs anymore. Anyway, in both cases the best thing is to proceed. ;-) However I will still call the Mac package experimental until I get some feedback that it works. Stefan |
