I think that weekly is probably too often, but waiting for us to hit certain major milestones is probably not often enough. This week, we've already fixed several bugs, and added 18Kaas, so I'll go ahead and do a release on Sunday to get the cycle started. ---Brett |

I have (hopefully) fixed the reported (and some more) bugs regarding share buying/selling and certificate counting. This includes a problem I found, that if 3 players have each 20% of a company, with 40% in the Pool, the presidency could not be sold. And I have added the certificate count to the Game Status window. Bug fixed: 1517701, and another one (#2) reported by Akiyoshi. New Feature: 1518280. Brett, how do you see releasing these and other fixes and small improvements? I would suggest an approx. weekly minor release (1.0.x) (if anything has changed, of course). Erik. |

One thing I neglected to mention that I added to the code immediately prior to releasing 1.0 was some fallback code that I inserted into ImageLoader. Basically, if we can't find the SVG files, it falls back to using the GIFs. This works around the problem I'm currently having, which is that outside of the JAR, SVG works just fine, but inside the JAR the SVG files can't be found for some reason that I haven't been able to track down yet. On the whole, I think having this fallback is a necessary evil until we are able to improve upon the tile drawing. ---Brett. |

While I'm working to fix the worst bugs in 1830, I'm hoping to keep the audience happy by publishing 18Kaas, a true 1830 clone on a different map. It has 4 new tiles (1 preprinted and 3 real ones). These tiles have no "official" numbers yet, and as TileDesigner does not accept the alphanumeric ids used at Blackwater Station (Ka1 etc), I have assigned temporary numbers above 9000. These tiles are 9121 (green B+), 9220 (brown U) and 9997 (brown B+), the last 3 digits referring to the most resembling "official" tiles. The preprinted tile (NY with different tracks) has got number -22. Once there is a consensus on what the real numbers should be, we can of course adapt to that. Or use a tile creation product that can handle alpha ids. Erik Vos |

I've just finished adding all of the bugs reported and feature requests that came in over the weekend to the trackers on the Sourceforge site. I don't mind adding them to the tracker myself if you don't have a SF.net account. So, please continue to submit anything you find or would like to see to either the tracker directly, or to this list. If you're looking for a way to help out but aren't sure where to begin, pick a bug or a feature request, and use that as a starting point. ---Brett. |

All go at the original price. For the future we can consider asking an extra question if more than one share can be sold. We will have to ask such a question in any case in games where a player can have different non-president shares, such as 1835 (5%/10% or 10%/20%). > 2. Hello, While I play solo game on Rails, several other bugs are found. 1. I can not sell multiple certificates in one packet. 2. I can not buy more than 60% certificates in orange/brown zone. 3. I can not buy multiple certificates in brown zone. 4. Even if comapny does not have enough money to place tile, it is placed after caution message. I think following problems are not bugs, but they are better to be corrected. 5. "Place Token" button is active, even if all tokens are placed. 6. "Buy Private" button is active, even if all privates are sold. 7. "Buy Train" button is active, even if company has maximum number of trains. 8. In sellection box to buy trains, they are not sorted by IPO, my companies, and other companies. 9. In sellection box to buy privates, they are not sorted by my privates and others. In addition, I wish following informations are showed in Map/Moderator windows. 10. Color(white/yellow/orange/brown) of current market values on Moderator. 11. Number of available tokens on Moderator and Map. 12. Next trains on Map. 13. Ownership of private companies on Map. 14. Special abilities of privated companies. 15. Value of red offboard areas. I have committed fixes for: 1. In 1870, the non-payout for shares in IPO (reported by Alessandro) 2. The off-by-one numbering of the vertical labels left of the stock chart (reported by Akiyoshi Nomura). 3. Wrong top-down sequence of tokens on stock chart (reported by Akiyoshi Nomura). 4. A NullPointer exception while buying the SFSL in 1870 (found by me while testing #1). Erik |

The technical difference between game selection and price selection is, that the former uses JComboBox and the latter uses JOptionPane (as do most other selections during the game). Perhaps Red Hat has a problem with JOptionPane? Erik. > -----Original Message----- > From: rai...@li... > [mailto:rai...@li...] On Behalf > Of John A. What is missing > for 18AL, which > > is already there? It is a bit too optimistic to state that 18AL etc. are almost done. For 18AL the following is missing: - Game end at max share price (exists in XML but not coded yet). - Privates providing special tokens (+10, prestige). - Privates allowing cheap train buying. - Historical objectives. - Limitation to buy only one train per OR. 18Kaas is a true 1830 clone, apart from some new tiles, so that one would be easy (making the map being most of the work). If I have time this week, I'll try to make a list of missing features in those games that I have and that are close to 1830. > There's not really much documentation outside of reading the source. I > can try to work on improving that a bit. > > I'll need to double check, but I think all the special properties are > in a single file. Yes, in CompanyManager.xml. But currently only the special abilities that exist in 1830 have been programmed and can be used in other games. I have tried to set up a generic framework for special abilities, but I'm pretty sure that more work is needed here. Erik. |

As you may remember, Tiles.xml has been derived from an XML dump of Marco Rocci's TileDesigner database (with a number of additional preprinted tiles added by me). Class util.ConvertTilesXML does that conversion (and should be in the jar). In Tiles.xml I had already included connectivity data for later use in route determination etc. (indeed track merging info is missing. I don't remember what my plan was for that part, perhaps I would have added it by hand.) One option may be to keep (perhaps somewhat extend) the Tiles.xml format. Then our current capability to work with TileDesigner would not disappear. I have created the special preprinted tiles (negative numbers) in the TileDesigner both for creating new visual tiles and for updating Tiles.xml. Of course, if you change the format, I can adapt the conversion class mentioned. Erik. |

Hello, Congrates on initial release of Rails! It is great! I wish it will be the best online 18xx tool in near future, which is better than VASSAL/v18xx in every aspect. Here is some wishes and comments. > 1. Undo - this seems to be the most important and desired feature. > 2. 1870 - because it's very close to 1830. Save Games - while this is important, due to the relative ease of > playing a full game in a single sitting, I think we can push this off > a little bit. 4. Secret/Public bank/treasury/player money Bank/Treasury/Player money is secret in some 18xx, and is public in others. I wish secrecy of money is supported as rules say, but it should be selectable before game starts acording to players' preference. 5. Built-in Chat with log 6. Online game For online synchronized game. 7. Web game For online asynchronized game. Server keeps game data, and players log in asynchronously to play his/her turn. 8. Map scaling Apart from wish lists, thers seems to be a bug on stock chart/moderator. Current market value is showed in moderator in "Price(Place)" format. Place is showed in Alpha-Numeric. Number is greater than it should be by one. On stock chart, new company's CMV marker is placed over existing company's CMV marker. I guess it is not a bug, but contradicts to what we do in real games. Akiyoshi NOMURA mailto:aki...@ni... |

Some other notes (all from playing the 1830 game): - No scrolling in tile selection area. Upgrading a 9 has many options some of which are not visible at smaller window sizes. I run at 1024x768 and at full screen all tile options were visible. - After an error laying token (no space, insufficient money), "No token" button changes back to "No tile" - If a company has placed all its tokens previously, each click on "No tile" button after having played a tile this turn "advances" the operating sequence with a default of no action (No change in revenue, no payout, no train purchase). This does not appear to happen if the company has tokens remaining. It also appears that if the last operating company advances through its turn sequence in this way the operating rounds cannot end (Done button clicks but does nothing, as does the Buy Private button) - "City 1" vs "City 2" when playing token is not clear as to where the token will end up - Extra #2 tile appeared to be available (played it twice). Had already played the other "double-dot" so don't know if I could've play it three times, will check. The tile on the other "double-dot" (the "bow & arrow') was not available again after being played. Thanks Bill |

I can't duplicate it. Can you send in a copy of the play log? The easiest way is to run the jar from the command-line: 1. Start -> Run -> 'cmd' 2. 'java -jar Rails.jar' 3. produce the error 4. right-click on title bar of command window -> edit -> select 5. as #3, but edit -> copy 6. paste into an e-mail. ---Brett |

We need both route calculation and to improve the drawing code, so if you can do one or both, I'm happy with that. > I'm sorry I haven't had the time I thought I would, and I am pressed for > time to get 2 more (possibly 3 or 4) games in production in time for > Essen. The summer time has traditionally been our slow time anyhow. Most of us are out playing in the sun and don't have as much time to dedicate to sitting inside coding. ;-) |

Just tried the latest release -- after the initial auction, trying to start a new company doesn't allow me to choose any par value besides $100 -- it just ignores the selection and leaves the default of $100 there. -- John A. If I am remembering incorrectly or you have changed your mind, there is no reason the API to the tile database couldn't be nailed down pretty quickly and the route calculation code written based on that. I'm sorry I haven't had the time I thought I would, and I am pressed for time to get 2 more (possibly 3 or 4) games in production in time for Essen. I wont have time in the next month or so to spend a lot of time such as finishing up the Java port of the tile rendering code (or then writing the Swing output device for it), but it wouldn't be hard to implement the non-drawing parts of the API based on a static XML file for use in route calculation (or derive it from the information currently in Tiles.xml which appears to have the connectivity requirements, other than track that merges before a city [ie, city to A and city to B share track before it gets to the city and can't be used by two different trains]). -- John A.
