In principle Webstart allows to set some OS association like desktop icon, start menu entry and file association. However this is all optional, thus it depends on the Webstart implementation. I have added those options to an experimental webstart-file. Copy or click on the following link to try this: http://rails.sf.net/webstart/rails_desktop.jnlp With IcedTea OpenJDK Webstart on my Linux system it does nothing. However this might be different on Windows or Mac OS with Oracle JREs. Would be great to get some feed back, if and what this achieves on other systems.
