Earlier this year my large screen monitor blew up, and I had to use an
old 1024x768 VGA for a couple of months.

The effect on Rails was horrible, because some of the windows are simply
not smart enough to adjust themselves to a smaller screen.  In particular,
when playing 18EU, Rails insisted on displaying (in the map window) the
entire list of active companies, with no way to scroll them off, which
meant I could only view the actual map through a "letterbox slot" LESS
THAN ONE HEX TALL.  And it stayed that way the whole game, until the final
merger round made most of the companies go away.

I suggest that any effort to make Rails playable on tablet devices start
with that.
