Thanks, Stefan. I'll give it a try on Sunday. I've generated an 1856
savegame at the point where things slow down massively - it roughly
coincides with the log file hitting 25Mb in size (25,273K to be precise). As
soon as I get hold of a functioning stopwatch, I'll run some tests and set
some benchmarks.

PS: I think I misidentified the game that is especially bad. I meant 1856.
