Stefan, Perhaps a neat 1.x-style solution would be to create (perhaps two separate) inner State subclasses to maintain the MapHex tile and token states. This would be similar to what I'm working on for the player order (but it only partly works yet). Whether or not this will really materialize before Rails 2.0 becomes master remains to be seen.
