I'm not even that far along yet, but certainly a change will delay my being
able to participate.

It would help if there were a FAQ about how to set up a build environment
compatible with the code (so I can test my ideas before submitting them).
Check-in is a secondary consideration; I assume once I have code working
there will be someone willing to check it in from a "diff" or the like.
