It would be great if I could run an in-house server to watch and record my workteam's hours on, rather than sending it to an internet server somewhere that holds world data. Some of the project and task descriptions may also contain information or keywords that would be considered company confidential.

This would also allow invoicing to be handled centrally rather than by technician.

Would you be releasing the Rachota server, or some version of it?

Several years ago at NetBeans QA team we were using Rachota in a similar way to see how effeciently our contractors worked and if they focused on assigned tasks. That's why we developed TimeMan [1] so check it out, give it a try and let us know. I believe it's what you are looking for. Once you have the server running, you need to set the Username and Upload URL for weekly diaries in Rachota network Settings. Good luck!

hi Jiri, i have a question related to this: do i understand correctly that there is an option to sync Rachota to a web-based server? I would love to be able to use Rachota online, in a browser, so that i can access it from various workspaces. The fact that it's on a global server is no problem for me. I'd be happy to pay a small periodic amount for taking up server space.

Hello Rik, Rachota cannot store data online and the client cannot be run in a browser. The only cumbersome solution (hack :) how to workaround it is to register an account in some cloud storage service such as Dropbox [1] or MegaShare [2], create Diaries directory on your computer inside the Dropbox/MegaShare local directory, then launch Rachota via JNLP link [3] and finally point Rachota to the created Diaries directory. This way the XML diary files will be stored in the cloud and you can access them from all your devices where you install the cloud storage service application. I didn't test this manually though. Sorry for not having a better news for you. :|

hi Jiri, thanks! I've been using the .jar file so far, do i understand correctly that with this file the xml diaries are stored somewhere else, not in the Dropbox folder from where i launch the programme?
