I think you are mis-understanding the problem.
There is an authentication mechanism that is supposed to verify your
username and password.
With rabbit I get an error because authentication is never attempted.

If you are trying to access the management screens, you need to make
sure that the DNS entries match the hostname for the computer, and that
the browser you are using is set to use the proxy.
