It appears that all of the images (or, rather, the majority) are fully
downloaded jpegs..  I'm not getting any errors when I try to view
them, anyway..

Ok.  Now, how to fix it.  I could write a script to clean up that temp
directory manually.  How long are those files good for?  Are they
"good" for as long as the cache files, or can they be erased shortly
after creation?  Is 24 hours enough time to let them hang around?
