Has anyone figured out some server specs that minimize delay when using this, while not getting silly cost wise. For the configuration I'm considering the server would probably not cache anything. The caching would be at a server at the end of a slow link. I'm guessing something like Any reliable hdd. 1GB memory -- I'm guessing that would handle at least a couple dozen users transcoding images without any hard drive. Athlon 64 X2 (3800?) I'm not sure if 64 bits or dual core helps. The first would probably depend on if ImageMagic can take advantage of it when compiled on gentoo. The second would probably depend if RabbiT can be doing two different things at once. Of course I suppose you could always start a second process and give it a different port. I haven't worked with a dual core chips before, or 64 bit for that matter. I was just curious if this would give any real speed benefit. I suppose I could do some imageMagick conversions and time them. Probably the greatest souce of delay is the fact that the image must arrive completely at the server before being covereted and then finally sent towards its destination. -Robert |
