It appears that png format supports transparency and compression. I so far have not figured out hor to get convert to convert the image from one image to png format. This is because when the conversion happens it uses the background of the original creation, usually white. I am wondering if there is a way to not convert transparent gifs? I cannot see any way to detect if it is transparent or not.
