Hi there!
Excellent project!
Just to provide references for possible new ideas, have a look at the project 
called "root" - it is a complete scientific framework in C++ developed at 
CERN, European Laboratory for High-Energy Physics and it origins from older 
analysis and visualization projects (e.g. in Fortran) called PAW (Physics 
Analysis Workstation).
