Hi again, All I need to do is get the initial width and height of the canvas before it is drawn. I need to set the Y-axis's scale so that it is one-to-one with the X-axis. At the time it is drawn I will not know the sizes just the size I need for the x-axis. So I need the canvas width and height so that I can determine the aspect ratio. When the app displays with garbage on the y-axis scale. I can then click on the plot and I will get the correct values for the canvas and my y-axis will scale correctly. There must be a way to get the values before it is drawn. With regard to Uwe's response I am not sure what was meant by the plotLayout() or the activate() function, both of which I can't find in the docs.
