#2 Performance is pretty slow

wget localhost:8080/somelargetextfile.txt

I get around 40-60k per second. I would expect to be able to get
around 600k -- I can get 600k over the network quite regularly.

This is running on roy.cs.mu.oz.au under Linux (p3 600Mhz).

We may want to look at the performance issues.
