I realized in a previous message that I asked about sending objects vs character streeams and as I reread the note the 'lightbulb' came on and I switched gears...now I am simplely streaming XML from JDOM between client and server. OK, that is the goal, in actuallity, I am restructuring my program due to the changes in 1.2 beta and have the server side setup to read in and parse the tree.
