Hello team, I am Steve Chang from Taiwan. I am glad to join the team. This is my = first project since I joined the open source community. Recently, I read = a book---Succeeding with Open Source(ISBN:0321268539). The book metions = about the model to assess the maturity of the open source project and = the trend of the software industry. It's great for me, so I registered = an account in the sourceforge to learn more about Open Source. I work for a government institute in a IT department now. I have around = 3 year of experience with Java, certified with SCJP last year. My job is = at ERP domain. The project integrates the systems via Web Service and is = implemented with J2EE Concept(3 tiers). I also design the system with = rational rose. The goal to join quickget project is to make friends with more skilled = guy and to know how to collarborate a software project with skilled man = around the world via internet. Regards, Steve |

Hi, I will start by introducing myself. I am Suresh Vadhanam, working in an IT company at Atlanta, USA. I have a Masters Degree in Computer Science from Clemson University. I have 4 years of programming experience (C, C++) and most of the technologies have been Microsoft based. I have around 1 year of experience with Java and would like to expand my knowledge by working on this project. This would be my first open source project and am quite excited to be part of it. Looking forward to a pleasant learning experience. Regards, suresh |

Hi you all ! Now I will introduce myself, too. I'm Sebastian Kroesinger from Germany. = I have repaired cars for years then changed to IT. I have studied = computer-science for 3 semestres, but quitted then. Now i work for a = company where we are developping geographic-information-systems. I am = mainly programming in Java and i love it ! I think I'm not that = expirienced than all of you, but I think it will do. (At least I do a = German translation ... ;-) ) I have expirience in = JNI,JAXB,Servlets+Tomcat, Swing, little SWT knowledge, some = Design-Patterns and Gentoo-Linux.=20 I like the thought behind Open-Source and this is my first project. But = the best thing of all is to get Emails from all around the world !!!=20 My others hobbies are reading, cooking, movies, and so on. I'm really looking forward to do something for the project ! Hi! All, I thought, I would introduce myself as well. My name is Pratik Bhavsar. I graduated with M.S in computer science last year. Now, I am working in the IT department of an Insurance company. I have developed my love for java over the last 4 years but at work, they use Microsoft technology :-( . I want to contribute to this project to keep my interest in Java and learn new Java technologies. I am JCP and SCWCD certified. This is my first open source project working with a geographically distributed team. I am looking forward to working with such a highly interactive team. Cheers! :-) Pratik |

My name is Alexandru Militaru, I come from Romania, I'm 21 years old, and I'm currently a student at a computer science university. I never worked on a open source project before but I am very enthusiastic about this. I have some background on OOP, Java Swing and a little XP (but like I said I'm just a beginner). Hi everyone, I hope all others are as excited about this venture as I am, after reading Aegir Sun's opening e-mail. Something about myself to start off... I am Rohan Ranade, working currently in Philips Software Center, Bangalore. I have worked in Philips for nearly 1 year during which I have written a controller for Philips' video decoding chips, and also maintained the RTSP / RTP protocol stacks for streaming MPEG4 + ASF data over the net. I will be shifting shortly to Sun Microsystems, Bangalore. My interests include reading books, quizzing and watching movies. Also, I find it interesting to read about new software development approaches like XP (I wonder if we can give that a shot here :-) ). I have a few suggestions to offer based on my experience with past projects: 1. We should go in for the apache voting system to decide which person takes up a particular task. To aid this, every development team member should mention his skillsets and interests. More on this at httpd.apache.org/dev/voting.html 2. We should have a blog where each developer can write about what he/she is working on currently. Apart from serving as a status update tool, it is also a nice way to have some team spirit in a diverse team. 3. Each task should have a main implementor + 1 backup person who should interact with the implementor. I believe we will churn out better code this way. Your comments/criticism on the above suggestions are most welcome. Let's get rolling! Regards, Rohan __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Tired of spam? Yahoo! Now we have 13 developers in this project. And we may schedule the next steps to implement our product now.<br> <br> First of all, let me introduce myself since some newbies have not received my first letter. I am Aegir Sun from China. And now I am working for Sun China. My job is to develop a testing framework for CNS testing, before that I am a developer to develop installer for JES. Before joining Sun, I was a developer in Lucent. And I had intern experience in BEA systems and Fujitsu. That is me, a young man from China. How about you? Can you share some background information to the team?<br> <br> These days, I am working on the web site. Since we need collaboration, we need document the base ideas for this project. And we need document some important information(such as the goal for the project, code conventions we used in the project) to help the new developers to join the project. I just finish half of this work at <a class="moz-txt-link-freetext" href="http://quickget.sourceforge.net">http://quickget.sourceforge.net</a>. And you can access the website to see the goal and some other information from this website.<br> <br> Now some of you have downloaded the source code for the project. And you may find the code is some buggy. It really needs your improvements. And I will list the tasks at sourceforget.net and you can pick them up to your plate<span class="moz-smiley-s1"><span> :-) </span></span>I think the principle for identifying tasks is manageable. In my mind, a huge task will make the developers feel boring and it also can not be managed. So I will basically make the task smaller so everybody can finish it in one-two weeks. The tasks will basically be split into two catagories: GUI and model implementation. And you can choose the task as you wish.<br> <br> As the website shows, we have lots of objectives in this project. And we will implement them step by step. We should have milestones to check our progress. As I think, we should implement the project in the following procedures(from the easy to the hard).<br> 1. Basic http download support<br> 2. Basic ftp download support<br> 3. Some advanced configuration parameters<br> 4. P2P functions and stream protocol download support<br> <br> I think we are open source fans. And I get a lot from the open source community. I think we should be open in our project. If anyone see anything inappropriate(from technical to non-technical), please feel free to raise it. And we can discuss it and get a conclusion. I think in this way, we can get the most from this project.<br> <br> Any ideas? Please send your ideas to this email alias(<a class="moz-txt-link-abbreviated" href="mailto:Qui...@li...">Qui...@li...</a>). And everybody will see it and it will help us to make things better.<br> <br> Regards,<br> Aegir<br> </font> </body> </html> |

Hi, all: Thanks for all your interests in this project. And welcome to join this project! Now let me introduce myself first. My name is Aegir Sun (Chinese name: Yang Sun). I am a Chinese. Now I am working in Sun as a regular employee. My job is to develop test framework for the CNS (customer network service), before that role, I am a developer in JES installer project. I have using Java for about 5 years. And I am very interested in learning new technologies in Java and using design patterns to isolate the changes in my code. I have also worked for Lucent as a java developer (0.7 yr). And I have 2 years intern experience in Fujitsu and BEA systems. That's all about me. To the quickget project, I think we should support the following functionalities in our final product: 1. Cross platform (using java as the development language basically solve this problem) 2. Multi-threaded downloading for http / ftp 3. Stop/Resume task 4. P2P support Every items above seems to have lots of sub-requirements. And it really needs great work. In order to avoid too many objects which may overwhelming us, we should divide these objects into several steps and we should try to implement them step by step. I think we should support http multi-threaded downloading in the first step. And I think it includes many gui swing works and http related java programming. Which part do you prefer? Please write to this alias. And now the project is open for new hire, and I will assign the tasks to everyone in the next week after the hire closed. For the project CVS, you now can access the cvs according to the guideline (http://sourceforge.net/cvs/?group_id=139656). And I have put the prototype in the project's cvs. You can check out the source and use eclipse to compile and run it. But it is some buggy and lacks of exception handling. It needs further improvement. Some screen shots are available at http://sourceforge.net/project/screenshots.php?group_id=139656. That's all about me and this project. How about you? Any questions, please feel free to ask in this email alias. Best Regards, Aegir |
