Mohammad,
sure, i can help you out. Looking at your config file, it seems that
you are missing 2 things:
a. you don't have a BeginString. here's an example for FIX 4.2 begin string:
BeginString=FIX.4.2
b. You have a senderCompID but you don't have a targetID
The sessionID is a triple of {begin string, senderCompID, targetCompID}
That's probably why you can't send anything.
If this doesn't help, do the following:
1. open up the QuickfixJ config files and make sure that you have
serverCompID and targetCompID reversed in the corresponding configs:
[session]
BeginString=FIX.4.2
SenderCompID=sender
TargetCompID=exchange
and on the server side:
[session]
BeginString=FIX.4.2
SenderCompID=exchange
TargetCompID=server
2. Run the client and pipe it to a log file
%> runclient.sh | tee client.out
3. run the server and pipe that to a log file too:
%> runserver.sh | tee server.out
4. send both the client/server configs and the logs (with the
stacktrace for the session not found exception) and we should be able
to help you.
hope this helps

Mohammad, Are you still having issues or have you managed to get past this problem? If you are, send the log from the client-side app that's having a problem and we can take a look at it, and include the config files for both the client and the server side, and the log from the server. Essentially, you need to make sure that you are correctly matching the sender/targetCompIDs on both sides. Also, you may want to check that when you call to Session.sendToTarget() the sessionID you are passing in is the same session that's declared in your config file. toli On 1/26/07, Mohammad Kamran Liaqat <kam...@gm...> wrote: > QuickFIX/J Documentation: > http://www.quickfixj.org/documentation/ > QuickFIX/J Support: http://www.quickfixj.org/support/ > > > I have managed to remove this exception but am getting the SessionNotFound > exception on client side??can u plz help?? > |

Hello, I am preparing to integrate an open fix based service in a more complex J2EE application which runs in JBoss. My application will consist of several Initiators to different markets. I was able to do all initial tests, connect, send and receive messages using simple separated applications but now I need to integrate with the J2EE application. I will be using a system in which each session will need be managed separately (start, stop, enable, configure). As far as I understand the architecture, the *SocketInitiator as implemented in the initialize function connects to all the session at the same time and then uses either multiple threads or a single thread to handle the connections. I was thinking to use a different SocketInitiator, with a different configuration file for each of my sessions. Can this cause any problems (threadsafe !?) as all the code will run in the same JVM? Has anyone used something similar? Or maybe I have missed some session management functionality in the openfix itself? Thank you in advance for you help, Best Regards, Len www.len.ro |

Meh - Just saw Martin's email, hadn't realised you were trying to start up as an acceptor. So like Martin says, you need "ConnectionType=3Dacceptor" and you will need SocketAcceptPort and Address, but not SocketConnect ones. If you use the example configs with the relevant apps then you should be good. =20 I should read the whole thread before I start replying :( =20 Toby -----Original Message----- From: qui...@li... Subject: Re: [Quickfixj-users] How to Create a Session?? =09 =09 Looks like there's a typo in the example settings file, it's missing an "i" in initiator. =20 ConnectionType=3Dinitator =20 should be =20 ConnectionType=3Dinitiator =20 Also, if you are connecting as an initiator, then you should NOT be specifying a SocketAcceptPort or Address, so remove those new entries. Use the executor.cfg file with the executor, and the banzai.cfg with banzai, and refer back to what Toli said about SocketInitiator and SocketAcceptor when you're looking at the code. Martin |

Mohammad, When you talk client and server, in QuickfixJ terminology that would be an app with a SocketInitiator and a SocketAcceptor respectively. There are some examples in the QFJ examples/ subdirectory. The config files QFJ uses right now are text-files. The ordermatch example shows what a "server", ie an acceptor looks like, while the banzai example shows you a client, ie an initiator. You can see the examples here: http://quickfixj.svn.sourceforge.net/viewvc/quickfixj/trunk/examples/src/main/java/quickfix/examples/ Each directory has a .cfg file that's used for the configuration of QFJ for that example. You are welcome to take a look at our Marketcetera Platform application for a more complex example as well. The OMS acts as a "client", it has a SocketInitator that we use to connect to a FIX engine (which can be the ordermatch example). Version 0.1.4 of our platform was using basic text files for configurations, but we have switched to Spring for the current 0.2 release. You can see how to get the code here: http://trac.marketcetera.org/trac.fcgi/wiki/Marketcetera/BuildingPlatform hope this helps. Stephen, As i mentioned before, if all you need are ways to generate orders w/out validating any of the messages coming back, then you can use our OrderLoader tool. If you are interested, let me know and I can work with you on getting that set up. If you need additional verification, or if the Orderloader/Marketcetera OMS is too much overhead for you, then sorry, i don't know of anything else. You may be able to look at the OrderLoader source code to re-purpose it for your goals though if you can point it directly at some target instead of Marketcetera OMS. http://trac.marketcetera.org/trac.fcgi/browser/platform/trunk/orderloader hope this helps. Hi Martin, Sorry for the delayed response. I see from other replies that you're going down the separate process track but I thought I'd post anyway. We run quickfix in Jboss 4. It is deployed as a servlet using a ContextListener to manage lifecycle in the way that you described - I've found this to be a reliable, portable way to marry background processes and EJBs. Communication with other EJB components is by serialized quickfix.Message over JMS. Regards, Brad. -----Original Message----- From: qui...@li... Subject: [Quickfixj-users] Deploying QuickFIX/J in or alongside Java EEcontainer QuickFIX/J Documentation: http://www.quickfixj.org/documentation/ QuickFIX/J Support: http://www.quickfixj.org/support/ Hi, I'm looking for suggestions about ways to run a FIX engine such that it can be used from a web application in a Java EE container. The aim being to have a web page that allows FIX messages to be sent, and received messages to be displayed. Here are my notes on the advantages (+) and disadvantages (-) of the different approaches I've considered so far: * Run the FIX engine in a separate process + Life cycle of FIX engine is independent of application container. - Complexity due to IPC mechanism required to pass messages between app server and FIX engine. - QuickFIX/J seems to have no means for marshalling messages in this way. * Run the FIX engine as an EJB: Caveat: I've never used EJBs before. + Simpler deployment than using a separate process - I'm not clear whether the EJB lifecycle supports 'always on' services as would be required by a FIX engine. * Run the FIX engine in a servlet container, using a ContextListener to manage its lifecycle. In this method, initiator.start() would be called in a contextInitialized() method, and initiator.stop() would be called in a contextDestroyed() method(). + Simple deployment. + FIX engine life cycle determined by that of application container. - Doesn't seem conceptually right to run a FIX engine in a container designed for running servlets. Has anyone tried such a deployment before? Could anyone offer any experience about what works well, and what to avoid here? Here's more info on our orderloader (it's free): http://trac.marketcetera.org/trac.fcgi/wiki/Marketcetera/OrderLoader hope this helps, toli On 1/19/07, Stephen Leung <st...@be...> wrote: > > QuickFIX/J Documentation: http://www.quickfixj.org/documentation/ > QuickFIX/J Support: http://www.quickfixj.org/support/ > > > > > > > Does anyone have a sample java client example for Quickfix/J that can be attached to a load tool like Grinder to create FIX message load? > > > > The Banzai example seems to use an asynchronous model. > > > > Thanks in advance, > > Steve > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > Stephen Leung > Senior Manager - BEA Financial Services > Phone: 917.542.5807 > ste...@be... > > > > BEA Systems, Inc. > New York City, USA > 335 Madison Avenue > New York, NY 10017 > Fax: 917.542.5901 > http://www.bea.com/ > > > > > > > > > > > > This message is intended only for the use of the individual or entity to which it is addressed and may contain information that is privileged, confidential and exempt from disclosure under applicable law. Hi, I help run the London Java Special Interest Group, http://jsig.com. This is a new website, JSIG has been running for about 5 years now but we've not moved the history of presentations over to the new site yet. I'm getting the schedule of presentations arranged for the coming year and was wondering if either some QuickFIX/J users or developers are in or visiting London at some point and would like to do a presentation. As we're City based we get a lot of financial institution developers and architects at the presentations. Regards, Colin. |

I am running into a weird problem. There is one message type that when received does not seem to invoke fromApp(). It's an Execution Report (35=3D8). All other messages are processed fine. I see all IOI messages coming in. When Execution Report comes in I see QuickFix logging the incoming message. So it gets it but then there is no call made to the fromApp(). The reason I know that no call was made is because the first line in that method is a logger invocation that writes out the message about to be processed. No log entry is made.=20 I feel like there is some kind of threading deadlock, but was unable to find it. Since the fromApp() is not synchronized I do not see a reason why it would not be making a log entry unless the call to it is made from the synchronized block. Has anyone encountered something like this? Any ideas will be greatly appreciated! =20 Denis |
