Kamran, The first glaring thing that jumps at me is that you have BeginString=FIX.4.2 and DataDictionary=FIX44.xml in the client config file. Try setting the DataDictionary variable to FIX42.xml and see if that helps: DataDictionary=FIX42.xml You log4j.properties file may be determining where your logs go - so you may want to check that. but otherwise, looks like all your logs are going to c:\logs and c:\client_logs. Also (and this is a plug for my company's product) if you keep having trouble setting up QFJ, you can try downloading the Marketcetera Platform to send orders through it. You can modify the OrderLoader code to hardcode the orders you need to send, you can view them visually in Photon, etc. but try the DataDictionary fix first - that should work. Also, which QFJ sample processes are you running? banzai? executor? If you stil can't get it to work, let us know and we can try using the configs you gave us with the right sample processes. hope this helps. Hi Steve,
I see. Because I was using a old version of QF (quickfix-1.9.4?), it has
different table schema from the current version of QF.
I used the downloaded SQL scripts to create the tables, and it is working
properly when everything is normal. I used SQL server tool to re-create the
schema:
CREATE TABLE [dbo].[messages](
[beginstring] [char](8) COLLATE Latin1_General_BIN NOT NULL,
[sendercompid] [varchar](64) COLLATE Latin1_General_BIN NOT NULL,
[targetcompid] [varchar](64) COLLATE Latin1_General_BIN NOT NULL,
[session_qualifier] [varchar](64) COLLATE Latin1_General_BIN NOT
NULL,
[msgseqnum] [int] NOT NULL,
[message] [text] COLLATE Latin1_General_BIN NOT NULL,
PRIMARY KEY CLUSTERED
(
[beginstring] ASC,
[sendercompid] ASC,
[targetcompid] ASC,
[session_qualifier] ASC,
[msgseqnum] ASC
)WITH (IGNORE_DUP_KEY = OFF) ON [PRIMARY]
) ON [PRIMARY] TEXTIMAGE_ON [PRIMARY]
Could you try the same thing I did (even without using MSSever)?
Many thanks!

Alvin, from what I see in SVN, QuickFIX also includes the sequence
number in the primary key. Can you explain how there would not
have been a unique key voliation when using QuickFIX?

What is the messages column type in your MSSQL table?
On the surface it appears you have an incorrect column type in your
table. I suppose it's also possible that it's some MSSQL quirk, but
that's less likely.

Mohammad, can you send us the config files for the server and the client? that'll help with debugging this. perhaps you are not setting the version of FX in the session settings correctly on one of the ends? Nooshin, Have you looked at http://www.quickfixengine.org/quickfix/doc/html/index.html? It has a few examles of how to setup Quickfix. if you download the Quickfix code itself, i believe they have examples of some code as well. hope this helps On 3/26/07, Nooshin Haeri <noo...@ya...> wrote: > QuickFIX/J Documentation: > http://www.quickfixj.org/documentation/ > QuickFIX/J Support: http://www.quickfixj.org/support/ > > Hi, > > I'm looking for C++ API for the FIX protocol, but I can't see their website > at http://www.quickfixengine.org/ > > I can't find any other helpful links. Did you check the "Sending messages" part of the QuickFIX/J docs:
http://www.quickfixj.org/quickfixj/usermanual/usage/sending_messages.html
The best approach would be the section "Most Type Safe... DO THIS!":
import quickfix.fix42.NewOrderSingle;
...
NewOrderSingle order = new NewOrderSingle();
...
order.set( new Account( "aaa" ) );
order.set( new OrderQty( 2000 ) );
Please be careful converting double values to String and back (you could get unexpected .9999... in
the decimal place). Alternatively, you can set the string directly:
order.setString( OrderQty.FIELD, "2000" );
Cheers, Jörg

Dear Sir I read through the QuickFixJ web site but could not find information whether QuickFixJ support tag=value syntax or FIXML XML or both? If this is configurable feature then how to configure it? Does anyone have any experience on using QuickFixJ with InteractiveBrokers FIX interface? Thank you for your support. Regards, JK |

Are you setting the FileStoreSync option? If not, it should default to false (asynchronous writes). I haven't benchmarked the synchronous writes, so I can't comment on the 75 ms time. Your assumption #2 is correct. But you don't have to change the constructors. The default behavior is to use asynchronous writes. If you see otherwise, let me know or post a bug report in JIRA. _____ From: qui...@li... [mailto:qui...@li...] On Behalf Of bmazlish Sent: Thursday, March 22, 2007 6:03 PM To: qui...@li... Subject: [Quickfixj-users] FileStore performance I am trying to understand the performance hit I get by using a FileLogStore. In reading through the archives of quickfix, the filelogstore appears to add a marginal performance hit (message by Oren Miller dated 8-8-2006). However, this is not my experience with quickfix/j. In order to test this out, I turn off all logging so that the only i/o is the messagestore. When I run 5000 new order singles through my test program, each call to Session.sendToTarget takes under a millisecond when using a MemoryStore. However, when I replace the MemoryStore with a FileStore my performance drops and each call takes ~75 milliseconds for each call. In digging through the code, it appears that the randomaccessfiles are being initialized with the "rwd" mode -- thus requiring every message to get written to disk. I have two questions: 1- Is 75 ms reasonable? It seems far greater than the stats I have seen from the quickfix archive list-- is this a java vs C issue? 2- If i were to change the constructors of the RandomAccessFiles to just use "rw" mode, I believe I would be safe as long as the OS doesn't crash. Is this correct? Thanks for your help. I am running this on an HP DL145 server class machine running fc4 with hardware raid scsi drives and JVM 1.5.11. |

Steve,
BTW, I feel it is beneficial to have QFJ to print out and save in the
event_log more info, including exceptions. thanks

Hi Steve,
I see. Because I was using a old version of QF (quickfix-1.9.4?), it has
different table schema from the current version of QF.
I used the downloaded SQL scripts to create the tables, and it is working
properly when everything is normal. I used SQL server tool to re-create the
schema:
CREATE TABLE [dbo].[messages](
[beginstring] [char](8) COLLATE Latin1_General_BIN NOT NULL,
[sendercompid] [varchar](64) COLLATE Latin1_General_BIN NOT NULL,
[targetcompid] [varchar](64) COLLATE Latin1_General_BIN NOT NULL,
[session_qualifier] [varchar](64) COLLATE Latin1_General_BIN NOT
NULL,
[msgseqnum] [int] NOT NULL,
[message] [text] COLLATE Latin1_General_BIN NOT NULL,
PRIMARY KEY CLUSTERED
(
[beginstring] ASC,
[sendercompid] ASC,
[targetcompid] ASC,
[session_qualifier] ASC,
[msgseqnum] ASC
)WITH (IGNORE_DUP_KEY = OFF) ON [PRIMARY]
) ON [PRIMARY] TEXTIMAGE_ON [PRIMARY]
Could you try the same thing I did (even without using MSSever)?
Many thanks!

Alvin, from what I see in SVN, QuickFIX also includes the sequence
number in the primary key. Can you explain how there would not
have been a unique key voliation when using QuickFIX?

What is the messages column type in your MSSQL table?
On the surface it appears you have an incorrect column type in your
table. I suppose it's also possible that it's some MSSQL quirk, but
that's less likely.
