Please excuse my ignorance, but shouldn't the TCP layer abstract all this problems away? Otherwise it wouldn't be possible to download or upload files larger than 64kB?! Or am I missing something? You do not operate on TCP level when using QuickFIX/J. https://stackoverflow.com/questions/26627355/send-packets-larger-than-64k-in-tcp https://stackoverflow.com/a/26629065/4962355 Maybe using pagination can be sensible in other areas (e.g. low heap size) but I think not as far as TCP is concerned. Cheers, Chris. Hi, It feels good to be back in touch with Quickfix, after my covid recovery phase. Below is the scenario for which I was exploring the pagination technique: An inquiry message is requested by the initiator, and in response the acceptor sends the inquiry response message which is of size greater than 5MB. Since on TCP, maximum size of message that can be sent over is 64kb, how the rest message can be sent. (Pagination technique). Another query for which I wanted a suggestion- There is a field SenderSubID which have trader name. Also, there is PartyID which can have buy-side trader name in request message. So, which methodology will be the standard to use. Note : I receive the data from trader , but gives response back to Member. I have a member level quickfix system. Dear Sir or Madam, Hello, I'm a Ph.D. student focusing on software configuration research. Our group is working on how to identify configuration types of software. In this context, a configuration type refers to a Java type (class, interface, or enumeration type) that is used to manage configuration options or configuration methods. To investigate the characteristics of the configuration types, we manually identified the configuration types of Quickfixj (V2.2.0). The results are shown below. quickfix.SessionSettings: manages configuration options and methods quickfix.Session: manages configuration options quickfix.Initiator: manages configuration options quickfix.SessionFactory: manages configuration options quickfix.Acceptor: manages configuration options quickfix.FileLogFactory: manages configuration options quickfix.JdbcSetting: manages configuration options quickfix.SLF4JLogFactory: manages configuration options quickfix.ScreenLogFactory: manages configuration options and methods quickfix.mina.ssl.SSLSupport: manages configuration options and methods quickfix.mina.NetworkingOptions: manages configuration options and methods quickfix.FileStoreFactory: manages configuration options quickfix.SleepycatStoreFactory: manages configuration options In order to increase the reliability of the research results, we need experts to confirm the above results. Could you please help us? Thank you for your time and cooperation! Best, Yuan Liu |

Hello everyone! With a study intention, I've created one project, It's a trading simulator between a Broker and a Stock Exchange using the Financial Information eXchange (FIX) Protocol. It uses QuickFIX/J, Quarkus, Angular, Docker, Docker Compose and PostgreSQL. It is available here: https://github.com/felipewind/fix-trading-simulator In the project there are instructions to run it. It's possible to run it directly from its Docker Hub images or to build it locally. On the broker side, you can submit, cancel and list orders. On the exchange side, you can negotiate, cancel and list the orders, there's also one option to set the automatic trade. Besides that, you can access options to manage the FIX Session, like doing a logon, a o logout, check the current Session status, storage, settings and list the messages that were sent. On the Logs item you can list the FIX events and the incoming and outgoing messages. My next task in this project is to allow the real time update of the front end using the web socket technology. Thanks for reading! If you are interested in this project, just contact me! Cheers, Felipe Windmoller |

The only thing I can think of is to make sure that you have sufficient free heap. 5 MB might not sound much but have you ever tried to log such a big String? Most console tools I used got very slow when browsing such a file. Maybe you should avoid logging these messages. This is of course no problem specific to QFJ. Cheers, Chris. Am 28. No, I'm sure that none of the QFs have this. To be honest, I'm not totally clear on the pagination process that you desire, but I'm confident that no QF has it. If you provided a better example of what you need, we might be able to give you guidance. Here's the code. Note that this dates back to 1.6.3. It still runs fine
on the current release of QFJ, but not sure if everything we did is
still required.
In 1.6.3, dynamically adding sessions worked, but dynamically removing
them did not. We had to make some changes to allow that to happen. Other
than that, it was pretty straightforward.
Here is our code for doing this:
quickfix.SessionSettings fixSessionSettings =
brokerService.generateSessionSettings(sessions);
fixSessionSettings.setString(quickfix.Acceptor.SETTING_SOCKET_ACCEPT_ADDRESS,
String.valueOf(dareAcceptorHostname));
fixSessionSettings.setString(quickfix.Acceptor.SETTING_SOCKET_ACCEPT_PORT,
String.valueOf(dareAcceptorPort));
FixSettingsProvider fixSettingsProvider =
fixSettingsProviderFactory.create();
socketAcceptor = new DynamicSessionThreadedSocketAcceptor(this,
fixSettingsProvider.getMessageStoreFactory(fixSessionSettings),
fixSessionSettings,
fixSettingsProvider.getLogFactory(fixSessionSettings),
fixSettingsProvider.getMessageFactory(),
sessionService);
provider = new DynamicAcceptorSessionProvider(this,
brokerService,
fixSessionProvider,
sessionNameProvider,
fixSettingsProvider,
clusterData);
socketAcceptor.setSessionProvider(new
InetSocketAddress(dareAcceptorHostname,
dareAcceptorPort),
provider);
Some of this stuff you'll have to figure out (or you can ask me
questions about it), but, it should give you the general picture.
You generate your SessionSettings object which has the settings for your
session(s). We created a custom extension of ThreadedSocketAcceptor
called DynamicAcceptorSessionProvider, but, the only customizations we
had to make were for dynamically removing sessions, not adding them.
To add a new session during runtime:
// session doesn't exist yet, check to see if
there's a session that matches in the DB
if(fixSession.isEnabled()) {
quickfix.Session session =
Session.lookupSession(newSessionId);
if(session == null) {
// session exists in the DB, generate
FIX settings for it
quickfix.SessionSettings newSettings =
brokerService.generateSessionSettings(Lists.newArrayList(fixSession));
quickfix.SessionSettings
existingSettings = socketAcceptor.getSettings();
FixSettingsProvider fixSettingsProvider
= fixSettingsProviderFactory.create();
try {
Properties newSessionProperties =
newSettings.getSessionProperties(newSessionId);
for(Map.Entry<Object,Object> entry : newSessionProperties.entrySet()) {
String key =
String.valueOf(entry.getKey());
String value =
String.valueOf(entry.getValue());
existingSettings.setString(newSessionId,
key,
value);
}
SessionFactory factory = new
DefaultSessionFactory(this,
fixSettingsProvider.getMessageStoreFactory(existingSettings),
fixSettingsProvider.getLogFactory(existingSettings),
fixSettingsProvider.getMessageFactory());
// this will force the session to
exist, which puts it back in the mix
session = factory.create(newSessionId,
newSettings);
socketAcceptor.addDynamicSession(session);
} catch (ConfigError e) {
SLF4JLoggerProxy.warn(this,
e);
}
}
}
The key here is to generate a new set of SessionSettings (using the
default session settings to start) and then calling addDynamicSession.

Hi, I m trying to keep my sequence number to be continued over the weekend. I gave the start day as Wednesday and End date as Tuesday. But after starting my initiator , sequence number is getting reset. I analysed more and started by initiator on Friday and continued the process till Monday. It was observed that after Saturday midnight , sequence number is getting reset to 1. Can any help me with this?. Regards Ajit Gautam |

Yes, this is possible. Since the issue is adding session dynamically, the config settings won't reflect the new sessions. You have to add one default session or the acceptor won't start. I can share the code in a little bit. I have to step away right now.
