In the very beginnings, as Oren still worked for ThoughtWorks, he saw a presentation of a major FIX 
engine vendor. Being astounded by both the price and the limitations of the product, he began to put 
together some code... [Oren to continue]

I guess he named it "QuickFIX" because he could produce useful results quickly...
