A fix has been checked in. There were a couple global logging events that had the potential of being called outside the lifetime of the logger. These have been removed. If anyone can verify this fixes your problem please do so. This is a pretty critical error so we would like to get a new release out today. I can provide a binary for anyone if necessary. --oren > I'm testing the new binary distribution of QuickFIX (quickfix-bin-vs8-1.12.3.zip)=20 > and have encountered the following error when attempting to shut down my application=20 > (which worked without problems with the version 1.12.1): |

We are working on a fix for this. Assunto: [Quickfix-developers] Errors on Application shutdown
I'm testing the new binary distribution of QuickFIX
(quickfix-bin-vs8-1.12.3.zip) and have encountered the following error when
attempting to shut down my application (which worked without problems with
the version 1.12.1):
Message: "Object reference not set to an instance of an object"
Source: "quickfix_net"
StackTrace:
at QuickFix.CPPLog.onEvent(String s)
at Log.onEvent(Log* ,
basic_string<char\,std::char_traits<char>\,std::allocator<char> >* string)
at QuickFix.SocketInitiator.Finalize()
The only code in my Form.Disposed event is as follows:
Private Sub Form1_Disposed(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As
System.EventArgs) Handles Me.Disposed
Try
sw.Close()
Catch ex As Global.QuickFix.RuntimeError
MsgBox(ex.Message)
End Try
End Sub
'sw' is simply a StreamWriter I use for writing out an application log, and
it isn't failing on this line.
Any thoughts on what could be causing this, or how I can handle it more
gracefully?
Thanks,
John

I'm familiar with FIX, but new to QuickFix and programming FIX in general,
and have been using the Tradeclient application to get a feel for both.
The default configuration of TradeClient uses files on the local machine to
store messages/settings, and I am trying instead to use mssql to do so.
My question is twofold- First off, in the .body file, it's seems to be only
saving the outgoing messages and none of the incoming ones. Is there
additional config that needs to be done to save incoming messages?
Second involves using the ODBC to store things. It was compiled with ODBC
support, some of tradeclient.cpp was altered. Currently the 'sessions'
table is being written to, as is the table 'messages', although the
'message' column in the 'messages' table only has '8=FIX.4.2' for a value.
None of the sent orders are showing up anywhere, nor are any reports from
the server.
The tables 'event_log' and 'messages_log' never get written to.
What needs to be done to write to the two _log tables, log incoming
messages, and log the entirety of the messages (not just the header)?
Here's the code that was added/altered from tradeclient.cpp:
...
FIX::OdbcStoreFactory m_factory("sa","","DATABASE=quickfix;DRIVER={SQL
Server};SERVER=x.x.x.x;");
FIX::SessionID sessionID( FIX::BeginString( "FIX.4.2" ), FIX::SenderCompID(
"TEST" ), FIX::TargetCompID( "SERV" ) );
m_factory.create(sessionID);
FIX::SocketInitiator initiator( application, m_factory, settings );
...
I see the definition for FIX::OdbcLog, but don't know how/where do implement
it.
This is with version 1.12.2
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Frank

Some more information from the gcc bugtracker: http://gcc.gnu.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=3D14579 This is from the 3.5 tree, so the bug was certainly in 3.4.4 (which I believe is about when mt_allocator was introduced in gcc). --oren > backtrace: >=20 > #0 0x280b6484 in __gnu_cxx::__mt_alloc<std::_Rb_tree_node<std::pair<int > const, FIX::FieldBase> > >::deallocate (this=3D0xbfbfe698, __p=3D0x8058100, > __n=3D0) > at mt_allocator.h:430 |

1.12.2 introduced a lot of performance optimizations. One of the things
being done is that QuickFIX will look for the presence of a better
performaing allocator than the default std::allocator. My best guess is
there is a bug in the allocator that it is choosing on your system.
When it finds the best one, it will create a definition for it in
config.h. Possible definitions are HAVE_BITMAP_ALLOCATOR,
HAVE_BOOL_FAST_POOL_ALLOCATOR, HAVE_BOOST_POOL_ALLOCATOR,
HAVE_MT_ALLOCATOR, and HAVE_POOL_ALLOCATOR.
Go through config.h and comment out any of these definitions and see if
your sample application fairs better. We will probably need to update
the configure script to do a sanity check before deciding an allocator
is viable. Are your unit tests/acceptence tests passing?

Hi,
I would like to consult some settings from configuration file, and I don't
know if I can ask for these settings after they are read from disk to the
SessionSettins or to SocketInitiator.
My code to create the socketinitiator is:
Private qSettings As SessionSettings
Private Application As AUTOFIX ' implements Application interface
Private qStoreFactory As FileStoreFactory
Private qLogFactory As FileLogFactory
Private qMessageFactory As DefaultMessageFactory
Private qMarket As SocketInitiator
qSettings = New SessionSettings(sSettingsFile)
Application = New AUTOFIX(sSettingsFile, bReadingFromMarket)
qStoreFactory = New FileStoreFactory(qSettings)
qLogFactory = New FileLogFactory(qSettings)
qMessageFactory = New DefaultMessageFactory()
qMarket = New SocketInitiator(afApplication, qStoreFactory, qSettings,
qLogFactory, qMessageFactory)
Now I am reading the configuration file directly from disk when I want some
information.
Lidia.

Is there an example available of best-practice / suggested method for routing orders? Specifically, here's what I'm trying to do:
I have an application which allows users to enter new stock orders, and specify which exchange or clearing firm they would like to send to (ARCA, Island, ISE, Redi, Pax). My FIX interface can correctly route to the desired exchange by passing in the appropriate TargetCompID (I'm connecting to all five exchanges directly with five different sessions). In the event that one of my exchange connections is down, I'd like my application to immediately re-route the new order to an available exchange. This way the order gets in for my users, although not necessarily to their first choice of exchanges.
What's the safest/best way to test that a session is logged on and available? Does SendToTarget return an error code if the target is not available? Is there a Session Logon status I can query prior to calling SendToTarget? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Many thanks,
John Haldi

Hi, As per FIX document "Recommended Practices for Book Management" there are additional fields which are MDPriceLevel Tag No. 1021 and MDBookType Tag No. 1023. These fields are very useful for processing the Market Data Incremental Refresh message. I cannot find these fields in QuickFix FIX44 xml file. Are they custom fields which I need to add in the xml file and respective classes to use them? Or is there any better way? Could anybody help on this issue? Thanks in advance, Ananth |

I've added those messages to the XML and regenerated all the source. It's all in the source code repository. Information on access the latest repository with svn are available here: http://www.quickfixengine.org/developers.html You can add whatever fields you like to the XML. --oren > What does "I'll add it along with a couple other messages that are missing > in that category" means? Hi Oren, What does "I'll add it along with a couple other messages that are missing in that category" means? When or where? Could I modify fix44.xml to add these messages? I have found <value enum="BC" description="NETWORK_STATUS_REQUEST" /> <value enum="BD" description="NETWORK_STATUS_RESPONSE" /> In MsgType field description? I have added some fields in my fix44.xml, can I do that? Lidia -----Mensaje original----- De: or...@qu... QuickFIX 1.12.3 is now available at http://www.quickfixengine.org =20 You can get the release notes for all versions here: http://www.quickfixengine.org/NEWS =46ixed some remaining socket problems. Logons are sent immediately after connection, instead of waiting up to a second between when the connection is established and the logon message is actually sent. New configuration setting, PersistMessages which defaults to Y resulting in default behavior of storing all outgoing messages. This is useful if you want to persist state, but have no need to resend messages and want to get rid of the overhead of persisting them. =46ixed bugs in python and ruby APIs that manifested themselves as random crashes due to some object being garbage collected too early. The Python and Ruby APIs are now quite usable, stable, and full featured. Configuration settings are case insensitive. More usage of the global logging facility. See the full release notes for more. |

QuickFIX will attempt to connect to the database on a query if the query failed due to lost connection. In effect it tries to reconnect everytime it needs to access the database. --oren > In worth to the connection with database, I want to know if Quickfix > implements a mechanism of failover.. > If connection falls, Quickfix will try to reestablish it..? |

I use an Oracle database. In the definition of "messages" Table, for message's field, instead of data type BLOB (MySql) I use LONG RAW. When QuickFix try to insert new record, its raise an exception with this message: "Invalid Hex number" Any suggestion? -- View this message in context: http://www.nabble.com/ODBC---Messages-table-tf2252914.html#a6248346 Sent from the QuickFIX - Dev forum at Nabble.com. |
