If the problem is with the stl implementation, then it may be possible =
use sun cc with stlport.  Did you ever try that?

	That let me compile QF on 5.3, but there were some problems
	with the library that caused it to fail a number of the
	regression tests.  If the test pass on the newer Workshop
	compiler, you're AOK but I was unable to get things to work
	100% reliably with this CC:

	The problem I ran into seemed to be that the message_order
	comparator was sometimes set to message_order::normal even in
	the header portion of messages.  Copying a FieldMap seemed to
	sometimes lose track of what the third parameter to std::map
	was.  Not sure if the bug is with the compiler or with the
	Rogue Wave STL, but I gave up.
