Sometimes, I find it odd too.

Select New from the Menu and in the 'New Project Platform' dialog select X64
to create it for the selected project (it sucks, but sometimes you have to
repeat this step for every project).
You said you wanted AMD, X64 probably won't work for you. Maybe you need to
install the support for AMD in your VS.
