After talking with Reg directly (we work at the same place) and trying a few things, it turned out the other party was sending back a custom tag in every single message. Adding this to the data-dictionary allowed me to connect without problems from my system; Reg I've sent an email direct to you with some more details. =20 I'm not totally convinced that there's not some other problem too though - the above should have been fairly apparent in the logs and doesn't explain why it worked intermitently rather than not at all.
