Hi Janno, There are two ways to produce PDF files from a queXML document: 1. Using the to_form.xslt stylesheet and FOP (which you appear to be using). 2. Using the quexmlpdf.php PHP class / queXML Tools website ( https://surveys.acspri.org.au/quexmltools/quexml) The first way is not compatible with HTML styling as FOP doesn't interpret HTML. The second way will work for you. Also please note that the FOP stylesheet hasn't been maintained in a while, and also doesn't support automatic banding of documents for queXF integration. Hi, I’m only starting to discover the wonderful world of queXML and the problems I ran into are probably due to my inexperience in this area. I also scanned the internet for possible descriptions of the same problem but did not find any. The problem is following: I’m trying to convert a questionnaire created with Limesurvey into paper survey. As I want the paper questionnaire be compact, I converted the single choice answer boxes from vertical column to horizontal. This all worked well, however, as some of the answer labels are long, I wanted to introduce line breaks into the labels. This is where I ran into trouble. When I create PDF, the code I use in the labels is converted into html but not into formatted final text. Here is an example with trying to make a word in the label bold. If I introduce label text like this: <text>This is <b>bold</b></text> I will get: This is <b>bold</b> in my PDF file. The same happens if a introduce line break. The command I use for creating the PDF file is following: fop -xml quexml-1.6.0\MYQUESTIONNAIRE.xml -xsl quexml-1.6.0\to_form.xslt -pdf MYQUESTIONNAIRE_PAPER.pdf -param questionnaireId 5 -param show_cover_page false Hope someone can help. Dear Stefan, The suggestion on 21 October 2011 was for modifying the banding file produced by the queXMLPDF tools. This would allow for the boxes to be recognised as multiple choice when imported to queXF (instead of manually changing them to "Multiple choice" by using the banding tools of queXF). To do this, you would save and edit the quexf_banding_xxxxx.xml file and find the relevant <boxgroup> tags and replace the <type>1</type> with <type>2</type>. Please note that this will not change the look of the document, just allow for queXF to process the forms as multiple choice instead of single choice. If you want the display of the PDF document to change, the quexmlpdf.php file will need to be modified to display the boxes differently. i am building a questionnaire with several single matrix questions and now am editing the quexmlpdf.php to fit my layout…. so far so good, managed to change the box size, the vertical spacing between the boxes in single or multiple options questions. the only parameter which i am not able to change is the vertical spacing between subquestions in a matrix question. Any advice where to do that? thanks a lot in advance! PS: i am using the xml file from limesurvey |

Dear Tim, When using the original queXML with Apache FOP / XSL stylesheets you could pass a command line option which contained a form id - where the barcode would appear on the cover page. This doesn't exist in the queXMLPDF version. To do it using queXMLPDF - do the following: *Create a question in queXML containing the barcode information, for example: <question> <text>FormId</text> <response varName="Barcode" defaultValue="123456"> <free> <format>i25</format> </free> </response> </question> for this - format can be i25 for Interlaved 2 of 5 or codabar for a Codabar barcode. Alternatively use some software that stamps content on to existing PDF files. Dear queXML power users, I am trying to fit a scale of the semantic differential type in my survey - without success unfortunately. Basically it is an array type of question, but has sub-question labels on both sides of the scale (left and right). While I can easily create such a scale in limesurvey using the array option and separating the left and right side labels with the pipe symbol | , it doesn't seem to be exported to queXML correctly. When I try to export it to queXML, the entire expression "left|right" is written on the left side. Is there any way to do this correctly? Hi all, when using FOP to create the questionnaire-PDF for the use in QueXF we're facing the following issue: Each barcode on each page looks the same! UNCLASSIFIED Hi queXML gurus, I have just discovered that one of my questions, created in LimeSurvey, has not exported correctly. My question is of type "Array(Numbers)" and I just found this page (http://docs.limesurvey.org/Exporting+a+survey+structure&structure=English+Instructions+for+LimeSurvey) which lists "Array (Multi Flexible) (Numbers)" (same thing?) as "Not yet implemented". The PDF export of the question lists all the Y-scale questions 4 times (where there are 4 X-scale questions). To this layman it looks like it would simply be a matter of printing out each X-scale question in some sort of header style before each block of Y-scale questions. Having not gone under the covers with queXML before my question is: could it possibly be that simple? If not, my only alternative is to split the question into 4 questions; one corresponding to each X-scale question. Your thoughts and suggestions would be welcome. Dear Andrew, Currently the only way to do this would be to run the queXML tools locally. If you only have one questionnaire to create I could convert it for you with a larger font size if you send through your original queXML file. I am using quexmltools here https://surveys.acspri.org.au/quexmltools/quexml2pdffop.php as am a newbie at all this and it seems much easier than installing everything on my (windows) machine. However, the font size of the subquestion columns is too small for old people to read at 8 points. It has a control for question font (that does not seem to work anyway) but how can I increase this tiny font size? I tried editing the pdf produced but it is an embedded font and does not seem possible. TIA. |
