Hi guys I have installed Qucs on my new MacBook Intel Core Due, Mac OSX 10.4.8 It does not seem to work. I have been trying for hours now, reading all available information on the internet. Whit out any luck, and very anxious to get started whit Ques, I write to you guys... What I have done so far: 1) Installed Xcodes from Install Disc (and even tried X11 from internet) 2) Installed Qt/Mac 3.3.6 GPL "Mini" for Intel-Macs (Core Solo and Duo, MacOSX 10.4.x) 3) Installed Qucs 008 4) Read all the FAQ on http://qucs.sourceforge.net/faq.html Problem: When I try to launch the application, nothing happen. I have read the FAQ no. 5, and tried too figure out, if this is my problem. But being a non-computer genies, I have failed to succeed. 5. The ./configure script finds Qt® headers, but cannot locate the libraries. What's wrong?Though the QTDIR environment variable is setup correctly, it may happen that the configure script cannot find the Qt® libraries because it is initially looking for the threaded libraries (the libqt-mt.so link). If you have installed the non-threaded library (the libqt.so link) configure fails. This can be worked around by $ ./configure --disable-mt On the other hand it may happen that ./configure finds the Qt® headers by chance if the QTDIR environment variable is not setup at all but fails to find the libraries then. Try $ export QTDIR=/path/to/qt Hope you can be of assistants. Kindly regards Anders B. Vindbjerg - Denmark |

These instructions *should* work for 10.4 on an Intel machine,=20 but I don't currently have a way to test this. > What I have done so far: > > 1) Installed Xcodes from Install Disc (and even tried X11 from > internet) I recommend that you go to the Apple developer website: http://developer.apple.com/ sign up for a free membership, and then download the latest version of=20 Xcode (2.4). Next, download the latest version of the Fink package manager: http://fink.sourceforge.net/ Use the 'Fink Commander' program to install the 'qt3-dev' package. Now download the latest development snapshot of Qucs (currently 0.0.11): http://www.lkcc.org/~raimi/tmp/qucs-sometimes/ You'll want to grab 'qucs-0.0.11.tar.gz' and 'qucs-core-0.0.11.tar.gz'.=20 When you unpack these two archives, you will have two directories: qucs-0.0.11 qucs-core-0.0.11 Move the 'qucs-core-0.0.11' directory into the 'qucs-0.0.11' directory,=20 and rename it from 'qucs-core-0.0.11' to 'qucs-core'. You should now be able to do: configure make sudo make install Let me know if this works. Please copy and paste the text of any error=20 messages that you encounter in your response. The original thread describing this installation process can be found her= e: http://sourceforge.net/mailarchive/forum.php?thread_id=3D30510305&forum_i= d=3D36470 Good luck! craig |

According to this page: http://pdb.finkproject.org/pdb/package.php/qt3-dev The Fink 'qt3-dev' package is available for Intel. You may need to=20 configure allow Fink to install 'unstable' packages in order to install=20 the 'qt3-dev' package. You can find instructions for making the=20 configuration changes here: http://fink.sourceforge.net/faq/usage-fink.php?phpLang=3Den#unstable > But can't follow you at the last point: >=20 > You should now be able to do: >=20 > configure > make > sudo make install >=20 > Can you explain what this means. I sorry, but I'm not family whit such > commands or skilled whit Terminal. You will frequently encounter this sequence of three commands if you are=20 trying to compile programs from source. You'll want to open up the Terminal program, use the 'cd' command to=20 move into the directory with the Qucs source code. At the command=20 prompt, type 'configure', hit enter, type 'make', hit enter, and then=20 type 'sudo make install'. You will be prompted for your password after=20 entering this last command. Once Qucs is installed, you will need to start X11 (the program should=20 be in the /Applications/Utilities folder). At the X11 command prompt,=20 you should be able to start Qucs by typing /usr/local/bin/qucs. If you run into any problems, please send me the exact text of any error=20 messages, and CC the list. craig |
