Quarkos 24.04 Noble LTS is finally stable and available for download. This long term support edition is based on Ubuntu 24.04 Noble Numbat with Plasma 5.27 desktop by default. A Trinity desktop option featuring the most recent version 14.1.2. of lightweight Trinity desktop is also available for immediate download and use.

Quarkos tries to minimize Snap based software in favor of reliable and proven Apt packages. Quarkos Noble release follows Ubuntu LTS 5 years standard support cycle until April 2029 at least. Since the support may be extended up to 10 years, it may even be supported until April 2034, so we will support it as long as Ubuntu upstream will do.... read more

Quarkos 24.04 Noble release candidate is out https://sourceforge.net/projects/quark-os/files/testing/ . Anyone is welcome to download, test and report bugs.

Quarkos 24.04 Noble, the very first testing versions are now available for download from the testing section https://sourceforge.net/projects/quark-os/files/testing/ of Quarkos downloads repository. It is based on upcoming Ubuntu 24.04 edition and tools backported from Q4OS 5 Aquarius.
We expect Quarkos 24.04. Noble will be claimed stable on May 2024.

Quarkos Jammy live and installation media have been updated with important security and bug fixes based on the most recent Ubuntu patches. This Quarkos Jammy 22.04-r10 release brings the recent Ubuntu kernel and the Plasma and Trinity desktop environment stable versions. The major change in this release is migration of Quarkos essential Apt repositories from the deprecated qubuntu.org domain to our q4os.org server. Quarkos operating system had used mainly Q4OS artwork until today. Now we introduce new logos and branding, exclusive just for Quarkos and integrate it into the Quarkos system and installation media. Quarkos 22.04 Jammy LTS is finally stable and available for download. This long term support edition is based on Ubuntu 22.04 Jammy Jellyfish with Plasma 5.24 desktop by default. Quarkos Jammy release follows Ubuntu LTS 5 years standard support cycle until April 2027 at least.

At the occasion of the completely new Quarkos release, we have made a few important changes to the project. The project and operating system name has been slightly modified, it is no longer Quark, now Quarkos. New official dedicated Trinity desktop live media is now available too, so there are two download options for Quarkos, Ubuntu based Trinity 14.0.12 desktop and the still default Plasma desktop live media.

According to the Ubuntu 21.10 Impish life cycle, the Quark 21.10 support has been dropped and the live media has been removed from the official downloads site.

Quark Focal live media have been updated with important security and bug fixes, based on the recent Kubuntu live media release. This upgrade includes set of security and bug fixes, receives the most recent Ubuntu 20.04. as well as Trinity desktop environment R14.0.11 stable versions. Quark 21.10 Impish stable live media is now available for download in two variants, Q4OS look and Windows look. This release is based on Ubuntu 21.10 Impish, with Plasma 5.22 desktop by default. Trinity 14.0.11 desktop is available for installation from Quark repositories. This non-LTS release follows Ubuntu 9 months support cycle, so we will support it as long as Ubuntu upstream does.

As announced recently, Microsoft has released its Edge web browser for Linux users. Quark has got a convenient wizard style Edge installer, just download the ".esh" installer https://github.com/q4os-installers/microsoft-edge/releases and run it from file manager. Note, Microsoft Edge for Linux is testing at the moment.

The first stable Quark 20.04 version has been released. It's immediately available for download from the Sourceforge repository https://sourceforge.net/projects/quark-os/files/stable/
