Welcome to My Words

A Personal dictionary / word collection.

main screen

This is a small project for people who like to collect words and their meanings. It is not a regular dictionary, there are many of these on-line and there is no reason to create a desktop version of them.

What this is for, is to collect words that you personally like. Maybe it is a rare word you wish to use more often, or a word that you simply like the sound of. Use it as you wish, in reality it is only a list with a text box associated.

I am hoping to be able to add a synonym finder (will need network connection) in the near future.

So, how do you get it?

Currently, there is a 32 bit Ubuntu 11.04+ package available here:
http://sourceforge.net/projects/qtwords/files/mywords-1.0.2-32.deb/download

and a 64 bit Ubuntu 11.04+ package available here:
http://sourceforge.net/projects/qtwords/files/mywords-1.0.2-64.deb/download

This will install the binary and example xml file in /usr/local/mywords

For each user that wants to use it, you create a directory in their home directory called "mywords" and copy the xml file into that. Then fire up the program from /usr/local/mywords/mywords or you can use the menu item for it. Please note that the icon provided as the menu item is called Santang Rambo Tux, by Santang, and is licensed under the Creative Commons License, not the GNU GPL as the rest of the software is.

If the above binary is not suitable, and you want to compile it from source, you can get the src from below and then follow these instructions: https://sourceforge.net/p/qtwords/wiki/Installation/

If anybody want to help, they can do so by creating rpm's, Windows and Mac OS X packages.
