#2 Patch: various bug fixes, database

This patch fixes various bugs related to thumbnail
display and navigation. It also adds rudimentary MySQL
database support for thumbnails.
This really should be conditional for users without
MySQL on the local host.
It also incorporates the region compile error patch.
