With latest update 1.8.7-n1 LibreOffice Writer crashes. Calc is running.
1.8.6-n2 worked fine.
Complete deinstallation and new installation of LibreOffice did not improve the situation.

We are not able to reproduce on a fresh 64bit Q4OS 1.8.7 in virtualbox. Please provide short specification of your hardware and a short description.

I'm using quite old 32 bit computers. I see this in parallel on two machines with totally different hardware. On both I've been using Q4OS since quite a long time without any problems.
On a third 32 bit W10 host with VirtualBox 5.1.22 I run a Q4OS version 1.8.3-n2 with LibreOffice 5.2.5. without any problem. But a recently fresh installed Debian 9 Xubuntu shows the problem as well. Writer crashes, Calc is running.

Which way did you install libreoffice ?

At first open a terminal and execute the command "libreoffice --writer" - this will attempt to start libre office writer, and perhaps display some error messages. Second, you could try to remove Java from Libreoffice config options and try to run writer again. Please post results here.

Just updated my VB Q4OS version from 1.8.3-n2 to 1.8.7-n2. After update but before reboot LibreOffice Writer/Calc runs, after reboot I have the same situation that Writer crashes but Calc runs.

Starting the update with synaptic the attached info appeared. Same with my updates on my real hardware before. Sorry for the German. But you can identify the several URLs the problem resulted from. Result in the end: "Some index files could not be downloaded. They have been ignored or older ones have been used instead." I closed this window, stopped synaptic and used the Q4OS Software Centre to update Firefox. After that the second try to update with synaptic was successful without any additional error message.
But with my LibreOffice problem in the end.

Sorry I didn't update the browser while I was writing and so did not see your reply.
All software that is available in the Q4OS Software Centre I install from there.
The command "libreoffice --writer" results in the try to open a LibreOffice Writer window but is closed down at once with no error message in the terminal.
But your hint with Java was what helped. When I unchecked this my LibreOffice Write was back in the game.

    Thanks for your help

Thanks for the info, however APT index error messages are not connected to writer issue, most probably. There were some updates in Firefox repositories and should be resolved by the latest Q4OS update. We guess it's about some Debian LO writer bug, as it's reported by many other users on another forums as well. We will keep investigating this bug and try to fix it asap.

The bug is now workarounded in Q4OS Orion as well as Scorpion, however it needs a definite fix. Severity decreased to 1
