Difficult to say without knowing a whole lot more about your project.
Have you used a functional programming language before? I think that in
any case you'll just have to learn a little Q so that you can decide
yourself.

Depends on the target system. Binary packages for Q are readily
available for SUSE, Fedora and Windows, and there is an OSX port in the
MacPorts collection. (The Fedora and MacPorts packages don't include the
OSC interface, but the OSC module is just plain Q, so no compilation is
required and you could also include it with your application.)
Caveat: Q isn't available for 64 bit systems yet. (I'm going to work on
that in the next few months, though.)
