I was thinking too small (i.e., 0:-1) and not looking at the bigger picture (i.e., all X:+Y). My bad.

One suggestion: is it not possible to implement '+:' _AND_ ':+', with the latter form serving as a "safety net" for thick-fingered Haskell programmers?

Maybe a warning could be printed to indicate that '+:' is the preferred form for expressing complex numbers (X+:Y)
