Do you have Jack installed? The distributed PortAudio wants both ALSA 
and Jack when loading its drivers. If you want a PortAudio version 
without Jack support then you have to rebuild the package yourself. But 
the easiest fix would be to just install the jack package included in 
the SuSE distribution.
