I take it that by "without any rewrite rules" you actually mean "basic stuff we usually do with scripting languages". ;-) Stuff like traversing directories, batch processing of text or images (using ImageMagick), basic web programming etc. If anyone has some ideas which concrete examples should go in there (basic stuff, no 3 manyear projects please ;-), or maybe has some short but instructive Perl/Python/Ruby examples to be ported, I'll have a look, as time permits.
