Hi all, I have installed the stand-alone pyxida application on 3 nodes for testing. Two nodes belong to Planetlab ( planetlab1.csail.mit.edu,righthand.eecs.harvard.edu) and the third belongs to my lab. When I used the script "query.pl" towards each node, I obtained as coordinates [0.000 0.000 0.000 0.000 h0.000] though the script "./runPyxida.sh" runs on each node. As well, I changed the pyxida.bootstraplist on each node. I am wondering If I should configure something else. Thanks in advance. Kind regards. Thank you for the clarification. I've been reading through your published papers and code and I must say I learned a lot about how Pyxida works :) I still have a quick and easy (hopefully) question. Each Pyxida node has a small amount of neighbors and learn about other nodes through other nodes. I am running on about 200 machines, and it seems like all the Pyxida nodes are adding each other to their upNeighbors set. NCClient.java has the MAX_NEIGHBORS set to 512. I wanted to make sure that I am not misreading the code, but shouldn't each Pyxida node keep a small number of neighbors in its upNeighbors set. Else, it will be a lot of updates to send a gossipMessage to all 200 neighbors, and it also means that a Pyxida node has the whole network in its upNeighbors set - that seems wrong. I am inclined to change the value of MAX_NEIGHBORS but wanted to make sure that my understanding is correct first. Thank you, Eric On Mar 13 2008, Jonathan Ledlie wrote: > >Eric, > >IIRC, we set up two coordinate systems so we could experiment with >different algorithms for updating them in parallel. Eric, IIRC, we set up two coordinate systems so we could experiment with different algorithms for updating them in parallel. In other words, the same sets of latency measurements would be experienced at the same time -- how do different algorithms respond to them. You might well find this functionality useful. If you wanted to expand it to include more than two, I'm sure this wouldn't be too tricky. So, both coordinates are for the same node, but different coordinate systems. -jonathan On Mar 13, 2008, at 1:45 PM, Peter Pietzuch wrote: > Jonathan, can you shed some light into this? > > Cheers, > Peter > > Eric Chan-Tin wrote: >> Thanks for the help. >> >> The problem was that I was using jdk 1.6 and even though I cleaned >> and >> recompiled util-prp and ASync and copied the jar files to Pyxida/ >> lib, it >> still failed with the same error message. Thanks for the help. The problem was that I was using jdk 1.6 and even though I cleaned and recompiled util-prp and ASync and copied the jar files to Pyxida/lib, it still failed with the same error message. But I downgraded to jdk 1.5.0_09 and seems to be working fine now. I assume that some of the jar files in Pyxida/lib were compiled under jdk1.5. One more question though. Why are there "update1" and "update2"? More specifically, why would CoordClient have two NCClient - a primaryNC and a secondaryNC? Let's say there are two Pyxida clients - A and B. In an update, update1 would refer to A and update2 would refer to B (B sends A a message). Is that a correct interpretation? Hi Pyxida users/developers, I am interested in helping with the Pyxida project. I read a couple of papers about how network coordinate systems (for example GNP or Vivaldi) are insecure and wanted to implement some countermeasures against those attacks. Instead of creating my own Vivaldi implementation, I thought of just using Pyxida instead. However, I am having some problems starting up Pyxida. I don't know if this is the right place or not. I created 8 instances of Pyxida on 8 separate machines with the bootstrap list being those 8 machines. All 8 Pyxida instances start up fine but give error messages after a while [quote] WA 1205186886103 NetUtil : Could not deserialize java object: java.io.StreamCorruptedException: invalid type code: 80 WA 1205186886103 ObjComm$ReadConnHa: No valid msgObject received from remoteAddr=<address>:55504. Ignoring. [\quote] It seems like Pyxida is not able to parse the messages received. I am using ICMP = false since I do not have root access, so am unable to try Jpcap. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. If this is not the right place to send this kind of email, please let me know the correct email address. Thank you, Eric |

Hello, I am working on locating internet bottlenecks. Here is sthg i want to discuss with you people. I want to make an application like trace route AlterTraceRoute whom when i run it provides me all the intermediate Nodes alternative Server Nodes(Overlay-nodes). What i want is that to assign each of my Intermediate Router a Coordinate base upon ping or latency. How will i do that using Pyxida (can I use it for assigning coordinate to intermediate Routers as well as other servers between two end hosts). And How i can have the SourceCode of the Pyxida. As i can't found the sourcecode on http://pyxida.sourceforge.net/. Thank you. regards, Sarfraz Raza Research Associate Computer Science Department Lahore University of Management and Sciences |

Hi all, I had a question about the Vivaldi simulator in the pyxida source code. I didn't find any documentation for the vivaldi simulator in the cvs, something that describes the various different tests that could be run using this simulator, and the input/output format from the simulator. I found a little bit of documentation in the syrah website, but that is for the old code i believe. Do you happen to have any documentation for this simulator that probably didn't make it into the cvs for some reason? Or, is the code itself the documentation? :) Some documentation will help me a lot! Thanks, KP |

Dear Pyxida Authors & Users, I am a visiting student at Microsoft Research Asia and focus on Network Coordinate research. Pyxida is a very useful tool for us. But today I find something may be wrong. I find that the version of Pyxida is upgrade to 1.0.4, but we can not download either pyxida-0.1.4.jar or pyxida-0.1.4.tar.gz from the website. It returns a HTTP 404 Error. Would you please have a look at this problem? Thank you very much! Best regards, Yours, Yang Chen |
