Okay, I think this is a real issue and not an artifact of a bad data point. I'm installing PyX 0.9 with python 2.4 on a separate machine, Mac OS X 10.3.9. A reasonably pristine install with the latest modules. I installed a new MacTeX installer from http://www.tug.org/mactex/ When I run the PyX hello.py, I get a load of warnings like: warnings.warn("Ignoring line %i in mapping file '%s': %s" % (lineno, filename, e)) /Library/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions/2.4/lib/python2.4/site- packages/pyx/dvifile.py:396: UserWarning: Ignoring line 4089 in mapping file 'psfonts.map': wrong syntax similar to an error reported in February of 2006 marked as fixed. Checking my pyx and python config, it appears the MacTeX installer is slightly newer: > pdfeTeX 3.141592-1.30.4-2.2 (Web2C 7.5.5) > kpathsea version 3.5.5 > Copyright 2005 Peter Breitenlohner (eTeX)/Han The Thanh (pdfTeX). > Kpathsea is copyright 2005 Karl Berry and Olaf Weber. The system where things are working has an older TeX release: > e-TeX (Web2C 7.5.2) 3.141592-2.1 > kpathsea version 3.5.2 > Copyright (C) 1997-2003 The NTS Team. > Kpathsea is copyright (C) 1997-2003 Free Software Foundation, Inc. I tried the FAQ recommendation of adding the entries to psfonts.map in the .pyxrc file but this has no effect. It suggests the default latex config for this package has changed but I'm not clear on where to start on this. Is there a PyX setting which could fix this? Other suggestions? Thanks, Tom -- W.T. They seem to appear in batches. I'm assuming it's this psfonts.map: $ kpsewhich psfonts.map /usr/local/teTeX/share/texmf.local/fonts/map/dvips/updmap/psfonts.map for example lines 424-435: > lbmsd LucidaNewMath-Symbol-Demi <lbmsd.pfb > lbr LucidaBright " TeXnANSIEncoding ReEncodeFont " <texnansi.enc=20 > <lbr.pfb > lbrsc LucidaBrightSmallcaps " TeXnANSIEncoding ReEncodeFont "=20 > <texnansi.enc <lbrsc.pfb > lbsl LucidaBright-Oblique " TeXnANSIEncoding ReEncodeFont "=20 > <texnansi.enc <lbsl.pfb > lbtb LucidaTypewriterBold " TeXnANSIEncoding ReEncodeFont "=20 > <texnansi.enc <lbtb.pfb > lbtbo LucidaTypewriterBoldOblique " TeXnANSIEncoding ReEncodeFont "=20 > <texnansi.enc <lbtbo.pfb > lbto LucidaTypewriterOblique " TeXnANSIEncoding ReEncodeFont "=20 > <texnansi.enc <lbto.pfb > lbtr LucidaTypewriter " TeXnANSIEncoding ReEncodeFont " <texnansi.enc=20= > <lbtr.pfb > lcircle10 LCIRCLE10 <lcircle1.pfb > lcirclew10 LCIRCLEW10 <lcirclew.pfb > lcmss8 LCMSS8 <lcmss8.pfb but this file only has 944 lines. Higher line numbers in the warnings: 2654-2655, 3358-3359 and more. Suggestions? I'm wondering if this is a new default in the newer TeX install. I'm=20 not as familiar with command-line tex as OzTeX so browsing the=20 directory tree for the configs has not been fruitful. No they are not. I had hoped 'paste-as-quotation' might preserve the line formatting but it got wrapped anyway. Lines starting with '<' characters (after the quotation >) are really part of the previous line. Lines in the file appear to be separated by hex 0a. Looking in the psfonts_t1.map (linked from psfonts.map) on the working installation, they look the same. Running Apple FileMerge on the two files (old version vs new) reveals substantial differences. The files listed in the region of complaint in the new file also exist in the old file, but apparently at a different location in the file. Other ideas? Tom -- W.T. You don't need to install the Subversion server but only the client. If you want, I could also send you a new version of the file in question. > I'm currently trying to back-rev my LaTeX installation to see if that > fixes things. Ok, but then we won't find out about the cause of the problem. Jörg |

Even the client install wanted Apache libs to build. Feel free to send me a version of the file. I can switch back to the new LaTeX by renaming my teTeX directory. Would it help to send you the psfonts.map files in the newer LaTeX install? Thanks. Tom -- W.T. Bridgman, Ph.D. Physics & Astronomy |
